Have you read all of this thread?

Examples, Nemmie, not just noise.

maybe he refers to the comments of 'pikey scum' or maybe the welcome i got 'where did you hear of this thread? did you google pikey scum'

The first person to post "pikey scum" on this forum is yourself, just then. There seems to be a lot of reading things that don't exist going on. As has been pointed out, most people's interactions with travellers have been negative - shoplifting, snooping around property, and so on. That's not been my experience, but then I've probably spent more time around them than anyone else (excluding yourself, of course).

As for: "where did you hear of this thread? Did you google pikey scum?" I suspect that was actually a serious question - you've got to admit that it's quite strange for a Romani to just turn up when we happen to be discussing travellers. You couldn't have Googled for pikey, though, because we hadn't been crawled yet (we have now, though). So I figure someone called you - not that it really matters, but it is interesting.

Maybe you did. They seem to forget that this is a public forum before they post their nasty comments. Maybe a private section is in order where you can all behave how ever you please without being challenged by the very people you are in judgement of.

With respect, that's not true. You're more than welcome here, and there's absolutely no reason for you to tell us how you got here, but there's no point in lying.

Nukes and cleansing fires are discriminatory now then?

The point was about types of travellers not every traveller ever. Stop moving the goalposts to suit yourself.

If you think that these comments are acceptable or even remotely balanced or reasonable then you are clearly deluded.

just to clear things up. I am here on my own, I could forward a link to other travellers but don't wish to cause upset to people who are minding their own business & getting on with their lifes.
I stumbled across this thread & although comments have been edited or removed it is obvious that there are a few on this thread that are racist & do not care that not every traveller is a 'wrong un' (thats not a quote it the impression given)
Those few should really remember that you don't have to be a traveller to be an arsehole. However most of you have spoken with the same respect you would show anyone & that is why I have so far stayed.
I hope that I will help at least be able to prove that all travellers are not scum, cunts or any other abusive way we have been refered to (be it deleted, edited or not)
Many asked for an example of a non steroetypical traveller & I have tried my best to give you that. No one race of people are perfect. But then no one race is all rotten.

You suggested they didn't exist. I proved they did and that was merely an additional comment, I am glad that you agree that they are neither acceptable or balanced though.

It would seem we are in accord and I can return to watching the football.

I agree with everything else you said, but this bit isn't true. Most edits have been for grammar or spelling, a few have had stuff added and one was changed to avoid off-topic arguing (but it was about Dale Farm, not travelers as a whole).
Suggesting otherwise makes everyone who has posted look like a liar.

If you read every post from the start you will find a few random response to posts that aren't there & that apparently never existed. I'm not making it up lol its there for everyone to see. Surely there aren't people on here halicinating & seeing ghosts pmsl even if Amy winehouse did show her face

Some people do seem to enjoy responding to things that were never said, because it allows them to be more righteous and outraged about things. Unless you saw the original post with your own eyes, I wouldn't take responding to something that wasn't said as proof of it being there in the first place.

Edit - Dimlies are these - :) >:( :o  :belm:  ;) :nerd: :spew: :attitude:

That's simply not true, to my knowledge. Point something out if you like. Sorry, but I think you've been put up to this by some troublemaker, overreacting to perceived bigotry (or what's in their own head), when at worst there are a few off-colour jokes.

Quote:
it is obvious that there are a few on this thread that are racist

Again, I can't really see that. I see one or two people have reason to dislike particular traveller settlements based on direct personal experience. Does that make them 'racist', really?

Even if they *did* dislike all people who choose to live in caravan sites, which I agree might be unfair or a bit intolerant, I still don't think racism cones into it.

@apparentpikeyscum:

Just to clear up something brought up earlier in the thread, would you, who classes yourself as a traveller (I believe, it's a bit hard to follow this thread at present) define travellers as a 'race' of people? If so (for the sake of my own curiosity), is it generally thought of that all travellers are of a single race or is it believed that Romany travellers, Irish Travellers, Scottish travellers, (etc) are all separate races or ethnic groups, and how might an Irish (for example) traveller be different from other Irish folks, racially? See, I wouldn't class 'Irish' as a race, so find it hard to see why 'Irish traveller' might be, and if it's not, how are the comments here 'racist' (I'm not asking if they are wrong or distasteful, but specifically 'racist'.)

If it's not a race issue, but an issue of the traveller's lifestyle upsetting and encroaching on the lives, rights and property of others, then that's a society and law problem, so the law-abiding, tax paying, neighbourly people that you speak of really aren't anything to do with this thread.

I don't think that many people think that someone from an Irish travelling background who leads a productive life in society is 'bad' due to their forefathers. I don't know how you'd ever know, anyway. So it seems that people only have a problem with those that, whatever background they are from, cause trouble and upset in the community through theft, anti social behaviour, or occupation of land that doesn't belong to them and flouting of the laws surrounding the land that does. If those things don't apply to you, then you really aren't the 'kind' of person being discussed here, it would seem.

I don't think anyone has said they have trouble with any group from a particular background, just a problem with those groups or individuals, such as those at the Dale Farm site, who seek to live their lives outside of the laws of the country they live in.

That's simply not true, to my knowledge. Point something out if you like. Sorry, but I think you've been put up to this by some troublemaker, overreacting to perceived bigotry (or what's in their own head), when at worst there are a few off-colour jokes.

it is obvious that there are a few on this thread that are racist

Again, I can't really see that. I see one or two people have reason to dislike traveller 'communities' based on direct personal experience. Does that make them 'racist', really?

a pakistani would find being refered to a 'paki' racist. A traveller finds being refered to as 'pikey' racist just the same as a black person would not like to be called a niger etc etc. as I said most have been respectful of race but a few have been ..... lets call it misguided

Amy Winehouse? Haha, there is no way you just stumbled across this forum if you are bringing up the pet subject of a thread so similar in tone. ;)

She didn't. Riles and Myp did.

I'd like to point out that it's impossible for posters to delete posts after a reply has been made.

Also: I are number one shite monger.

I'd agree with this.
But I think we pretty much sorted that out in the first page or two.

One misguided person, or the odd dodgy joke does not imply that everyone commenting in the thread is a bigot and racist :D

(which I think you do realise despite possibly being dragged into this to be outraged on someone else's behalf ;)

Yes I see your point & I think it is more similar to for example a man that says all women are bitches. As a woman I would find that offensive. It is more a case of steroetyping. It does cause offence to those innocent but made to feel they have to defend themselves because without realising it people make them feel they have to. Call it self preservation/defense.

Can we remove this thread temporarily, until such time as someone arrives here and has a right go at apparentpikeyscum for her username?
