And well done Malcs son! I wish I could play the piano... does he want some work on my solo album?

He had to play 3, do some scales, and a bit of sight reading.

The only song I can remember the name of at the moment is "Down by the riverside".

His teacher is letting him freeplay for a few weeks, and then he's going to start preparing for his grade 4 (apparently grade 3 is too similar to grade 2 - he skipped grade 1 too, which I didn't realise you could do!) His younger brother is going to do grade 1 guitar soon...

Yay, for playing music with friends I haven't seen in ages! Also, Yay for having an EP for a folk-rock project coming out in a few months.

It's great to get back in touch with old friends. So, YAY for the internet!

I joined a ... 'soccer' (gnnnk) team, and we won all of our three short-games on saturday afternoon, and then had a nice couple of beers afterwards to relax (I missed two quite good chances to score though).

I also bought a little Revo 3700 and have it set up under the telly running XBMC and streaming media from a NAS. Yay technology!

No idea. The only 'technical' word I took away from that was 'telly'.

Congrats on the budding Beethoven, Malc!

I got a bonus! Yay! The first one the company has ever given so we must be doing something right :D Thankfully, the job I'm working on is the one making all the money so I feel I totally deserve it...

Now I can pay off my debt, buy myself a new phone and still have some for savings! I'm well pleased :D I rang the MD to thank him and tell him it was very much appreciated.

Good things! Here's a message from Danny Baker:

Quote:
Cats and kittens, great and good, riff and raff, hot ginger and dynamite.

Last Friday while watching yet two more dubious DVD's - "And The Same To You" an atrocious 1960 boxing farce starring Brian Rix and "Not So Dusty" a pretty good 1956 romp about a couple of dustmen starring Bill Owen - I realized things could not go on like this forever, sweet though the living was. What was I doing with my life?

With some trepidation I opened my old trunk of showbiz memorabilia that dates my career from my very first TV appearance as the toddler on the Dickie Henderson Show right up to the Good Attendance rosette I received last year from the Gillard Radio Award People for showing up every year at their big night for no apparent reason. Fighting back a tear I was suddenly overwhelmed at just how good this business had been to an old hoofer like me. I saw new perspective on the reviews of my work that I had previously seen as negative: terms like "washed up" "leper of the airwaves" and "over Radio Two's dead body" began to have a new meaning for me. A challenge if you will. Surely at just 61, I had something more to offer than another busted flush like the Cat & Dog Super Bowl and endless days watching "What A Carve Up"?

Therefore I intend to un-retire again. I shall return to BBC London on Monday April 18th at 3pm to give it another go. I realize this will reduce Steve Wright's overall audience figures by more than 300 but it's a tough game we're in Steve. It's just a few vowels from Radio To Rodeo you know.

Likewise it is not my intention to do a "Jay Leno" to Gary Crowley but, down in his heart, he knew this day would come. That he is one of the richest men in British Broadcasting should bring him some succor. I am also endorsing his push to purchase Heart FM and make it an "All Mod. All Day." station.

Anyway, unless the medics make some last gasp cruel objection, that's how it is.

The 18th at 3. Not the other way round.

Croaky, thinner but none the wiser,

DB

Not sure when he'll be back on 5. Given the treatment he's been under he might not be wanting to work 6 days a week immediately.

On the upside, I haz monies! If you can make your own to Heysham/Liverpool then I'll buy you a boat ticket :P

S'alright, my eldest loves babies, he can change nappies and everything. I can't promise she'll actually survive a day in his care but at least she'll have a clean nappy....?

He left me to go to another country so we're like, practically separated or some shit. S'what he says anyway but then, he's going to Malta for the weekend so he may have ulterior motives. Bloody Ramsea.....

Hmm, I just don't have very much debt! It was very much out of the blue, Big G (the MD) said he'd had half the company on the phone to him since lunchtime (the cheques were all hand delivered this afternoon), he was genuinely happy that everyone was so pleased with it, to my mind, that's how a bonus should be. Any amount would have been most welcome really but it was equal to about a months salary :) So a very nice lump to have extra.

continuing from this post

Spent ages looking for a fridge engineer in Devon, had lots of quotes of £75 plus parts, with no one offering even a free call out. Then the first place I called, and left an message for called back, and gave Pauline a number to ring. We rang that number and Samsung will come out for free and fix the fridge for us!

It's 3 and 1/2 years old, and we didn't have an extended Waranty or anything!

So Hurrah for Samsung!

Three/four years ago my lad put himself on a drip in hospital for three weeks because he refused to drink (or eat anything but salt and vinegar crisps). We were days away from having a stomach feeding tube inserted but he started responding to therapy so the operation was canceled. It's been a long and slow process to get him to put pretty much anything new in his mouth, especially if it wasn't dry.

Just now I watched him eat a full beef roast dinner with gravy for the first time.

can't top that last one (although my eldest was on spaghetti hoops and crackers only at one point, he's still fussy now, but much better).

We are currently in sunny cornwall (Helston at the moment, but staying just outside Hayle)

The weather is amazing for April!

just spent the day walking around the far end of St Ives bay and hopefully a full beach day on monday.

Went out earlier. Driving around, shades on, windows down, a bit of Joan Jett pounding out of the stereo. A gorgeous day.

Shame I was going to the garden centre to buy topsoil, really.

Yeah, it's been a lovely weekend. Shame I've spent most of it smashing up sheds with markg and driving to the tip.

A walk around Speke Hall with the family. There's a path that goes right up past the airport with a great view of the runways. Aviation buffs would love it up there.

I joined a local football (or... 'soccer'..... gnk) club so that I could get some exercise and meet some new people. 4 games in a knockout tourney later (over two weekends) and we've won the first ever trophy for our club, yay!

I set up the first with a peach of a cross dropped (I don't really know how) right onto our striker's head, and won the penalty that took us to 4-1.

I missed a couple of reasonable chances though, and have three quite brutal stud-rake marks on my calf, but it's all good. Beers and a BBQ after the final were nice :)
