I will regret this, but put me down for Blind Mafia. I'd like to try a non-open game.

Ha! That's where you hand out new accounts to everyone for the game, so no-one knows who anyone is, right? It's on the list.
User avatar
Can you put me down for a slightly modified 2 mafia families game (specific rules I can paste somehwere to debate) please. I might look for someone to help me run it tho, as I'm often really busy during the day. Which wouldn't be very good.

Malc
Malc, well that's exactly when I am around a fair bit so if you do think you need someone to patrol the dead thread and lock the main one everytime they lynch a townie, I can do that.

Also I love the blind mafia idea, although I suspect some people will be found out quite quick :)
User avatar
I don't think that Blind Mafia idea would work, it'd take a lot of faffing about to logout of your main account and login to your "Blind" one every time. There'd be mistakes.

It'd be fun though, and it'd be very amusing seeing people change their posting styles to avoid detection ;)

It would also be fun trying to mimic someone else's posting style to create maximum confusion!

Use two web browsers. Log Firefox in as yor main forum account and IE or Safari as your "Mafia playing" account. Then you never log out.

Um, no. Sorry. It's a game where the theme is that everyone is blind, to justify the fact I won't be giving you a list of possible roles at the start of the game, and you don't get to find it out until the end. I didn't realise there was an entirely different kind of blind mafia.

Or trying to emulate other peoples styles. I can do a mean Titler.

Combine it with everyone just being a townie and it'll keep us occupied for ages.
Combine it with everyone being a townie AND the other blind idea and the board would implode.

Combine it with everyone being a townie and the other blind idea AND all 20 new accounts are actually owned by Comical so he can guarantee himself a win. 8)
I think we've long established he really only needs 1 account to guarantee that. Knowing our luck we'll lynch him on day 1 of vampire scum, he'll be a townie, and he's STILL win.

As an exercise in caution he should be lynched on day of the next game, just in case. I bet he still manages to talk his way out of it though.

Sounds good.

You'll certainly be busy coordinating all those roles, especially early on.
User avatar
A lot going on in those rules, Malc. A couple of points:

1) If the drug addict is a killing role, that could make them over-powerful.
2) The doctor and the nurse both know who the cop is - that means they will almost invariably trust his lynch choices, possibly giving the town an overly powerful lynch group.
3) If the Dons decide who performs what actions, how will the mole subvert them?
4) Four killing roles plus the poison is quite a lot.

Otherwise, some interesting stuff, should be fun.

1) Averaging over 2 days they will have the same ammount of roles as normal.
2) I was worried about that and initially I had only the doctor and nurse knowing each other.
3) The Don just decides who does the actions. I imagine the mafia will talk about who does what, then they pm me, and the don says action the doctor and the blocker (or whatever) Still leaves room for the mole to "do his thang"
4) Either mafia family might decide not to kill someone, the Vigilante might decide not to kill some one. The poison can be cured. Last time around there could have been 4 killings too (Mafia, SK, Mimic, Vigilante) plus there's a lot of chance of jiggery pokery.

Malc, that game looks like a fucking nightmare to play. Too many roles.

There won't be a single vanilla anything in that game, and at least six people who have 2 roles. Which gets complicated. Oh, and 4 different competing factions.

What happens in a mass role claim? There are no safe roles for the badguys to claim.

It might be a bit hard to follow, but after 10 games of it, we should all know what's what. Also of those 6, 3 of them aren't really double roles The Speed Freak gets to do 2 nights in one, then nothing. And the dons just decide who gets to have a go from their family. Maybe I shouldn't have the Romeo/Juliet AND the mole (or just have romeo/juliet linked with the suicidide pact but they still have their respective roles to play)?

Vanilla-ish.

I have thought up some new roles. None will be publicised as yet.

:)
I like it a lot. 1 tiny query.

Quote:
• Body Double - You are an adept Body Double, able to duplicate the appearance of anyone you choose. Once each night you must PM me the name of the person you wish to double. You will then receive the same treatment they would have. If they would have been killed you will die, if they would have been protected, you will receive that protection. If you target somebody that no one else targeted then you will double them also and nothing will happen to you. Your win condition is Town.

Effectively a useless role. More people get killed than protected, killing is final and protection may have been superfluous. If I were this guy I'd do nothing.

I do agree there's too much killing though, I make it a maximum of 6 in a day, 5 on every day...

Spinglo Sponglo! wrote:

Yep, I misread it. I thought they had 2 actions one night, then 1 the next.

Blind Mafia is going to be relatively complex as well, so near the time I'll need someone to volunteer to look over the design file and critique it. Some of what's in it is a little out there.

If anyone's interested, draft rules for GothamScum are attached.

Apart from a couple of wrinkles provided by The Joker and The Penguin, it's a two-faction game (mafia and town), with the main differences to standard MafiaScum being Arkham Asylum (where players can be sent without being removed from the game - they lose votes and night actions until freed) and the lack for vanilla townies (the players who would be vanilla townies in a normal game are instead GCPD Cops or Akrham Guards).

I assume that since it is Blind Mafia, anyone looking over the rules can't play, lest they get a massive advantage?

My goodness these games are getting complicated.

Oh, and WTF is a Grail Keeper?
User avatar
Curiosity wrote:

Oh bugger. I thought I'd got rid of all Grail Keeper references in the rules. That's from a pre-GothamScum rules draft I did.

Poo.

For reference, and in case anyone wants to use it, the Grail Keeper rule description was -

Quote:
Grail Keeper - Uh oh! You're the keeper of the Holy Grail and thought you'd settled in a nice safe town where nothing would ever happen. You were wrong. Now you have to make sure the grail does not end up in the wrong hands. If you are killed by any method other than lynching, the grail gives you enough extra life force to write the name of the player who killed you in blood before you die. You must also nominate another player to be the grail keeper. If they are a townie their win condition changes from Town to Grail. If they are not, the grail has fallen into evil hands and you lose. Your win condition is to make sure the grail is not in the possession of the mafia, cult or serial killer at the end of the game.
Not seeing any problem with Gothamscum and I'd like to leap into the ballot right now :)

I only looked at the Gotham one briefly. The Mob Leader seemed a little powerful... he appears to have the ability to kill twice per night... but that wasn't my main concern.

The Undercover Cop could just roleclaim at the start, and list off the entire Mafia. I guess you could put in some rule to prevent that, but it seems clunky.

How about a 'Bugged Mafia Goon' who reveals one of his colleagues in the same way, at random, to Gordon, but who is on the side of the Mafia (and doesn't know he is bugged)?
User avatar
Can't edit, but whilst the 'Bugged Goon' is alive, you could even keep the other role of the Undercover Cop in that the Bugged Goon can't succeed at a criminal activity, as the cops are keeping close tabs on him.

So, essentially, it's the exact same role, but with a Mafia win condition... he'll have to sacrifice himself for his side to win!

:)

Hmm, there is that. I hadn't really considered that. A very good point. I need to think on this.

Or maybe he could be so deep undercover that he's forgotten he's a cop, so he actually has a Town win condition, but doesn't know about it...

...that might be a bit silly. Your Bugged Goon role is a better idea, I think. It's a shame, as I wanted someone knowingly working to take down the mafia from within, but that can't actually work, so I'll have to let it go.
User avatar
Maybe the undercover cop could be prevented from posting names in such a way until after a certain number of days for example.

I don't really want rules about what you're allowed to say in the game thread. Too hard to police properly, I think.
