I've just posted it about it on Facebook which will invite abuse but I am growing to despise it more and more these days. Currently every bastard on there is changing their profile pic to cartoon characters to 'raise awareness of child abuse' because some enterprising spam merchant realised that any idiot going will immediately sign up to a pointless campaign against something serious if it involves a few mouse clicks.

About 80% of the turd brained shitehouses on there have now changed their profile pic as if that will magically make child abuse go away.

I may just start using twitter now as Facebook seems to be full of complete morons telling me who should be voted off X factor or I'm a Celeb, how cold it is and what the boring twats are having to eat.

Are the children in question pretty white girls with blonde hair and photogenic middle class parents?

I saw this earlier and thought much the same. I'll bet that a fair proportion showing their concern at child abuse spent a lot of people looking for an obscure character to make them look cool, and a miniscule amount of time thinking of the badness of child abuse.

One day (probably not far away), people who don't play the game will be deemed to be accepting of child abuse in all of its forms.

I toyed with changing my picture to Baby P when I saw it, but I don't think they've written that episode of South Park yet.

I think we need to start a campaign to support photogenic middle class parents.

No, many people will pay lip service to appreciating what our ancestors did and respecting the lives of soldiers and trying to prevent such atrocities from happening again, while simultaneously screwing away what they did for us, blaming all of society's problems on [muslims/blacks/gays/etc], and supporting military atrocities initiated by the government that fuck over other countries, kill thousands of innocent people, and put the lives of yet more soldiers at risk for no good reason.

My word. The standard of history teaching in our schools has gone seriously downhill. CONSIDER:

(a) they fought for our right to waste our rights. Anything else would be nazism.

(b) no blacks muslims or gays fought for us, young man. They fought for our entertainment.

c) forrins are, well, forrin, and therefore inferior and worthless. Actually, they should be paying us for the cost of our wasted bombs that have been dropped on them.

I have no idea what they're teaching in our schools today. Probably poetry and homosexuality and other useless and socially corrosive things like that.

I guess there is consolation in the fact you have to donate money to get one, so it isn't as simple as changing an avatar. But I've experienced people looking down on you for not wearing one, which is shockingly cuntish behaviour.

I must admit, I did change mine to a cartoon character (Lion-o, for what it's worth), but it was more to join in the with cartoon character thing rather than any misapprehension that it would any awareness of anything. There's no mention of this 'campaign' on the NSPCC website so I suspect it's just something that someone started and it snowballed.

Agreed on both counts. The poppy appeal itself doesn't bother me, certainly not if it makes things easier for knackered former soldiers and such. It's the sanctimony that often comes with it that annoys.

Back in the 80s a fair whack of the poppies were assembled by primary school children who went to C of E schools because the C of E couldn't see the irony of forcing small children into what amounted to slave labour in a tiny church hall with no toilets (school was a mile away and you had to "hold it in") in order to honour the people who died saving the world from Nazis.

What made it doubly insulting to me was that before it all started they made you sit down to a sermon of the "Jesus is love" variety and one year I put forth my my rather justified argument of that "I'm Jewish I shouldn't have to do this" and was greeted by a cuff round the back of the head from the hippie christian teacher who's idea of multiculturalism was to ignore the note from your parents excusing you from the christian assemblies and make you sit through half an hour of god bothering folk songs anyway. Meh. I am Muttley and I didn't do it for the NSPCC either I did it because I wanted to. I have already been reminded of a few shows that I had long forgotten and so it has enhanced my day. I suggest you avoid Facebook in the future as if this kind of things annoys you to such a degree it will only shorten your lifespan.

I don't mind people changing their Facebook pics for a laugh it's the vague attachment to a worthy cause that nips me right up.

Well the NSPCC is £15 better off as a result of me getting on my high horse and all my Facebook "chums" realise what a miserable twat I am so I'm declaring my rant a result.

I give it 3 months before everyone changes their profile pic to one of Maddie because "NEVER FORGET" and anyone that doesn't gets thrown on a fire.

I decided I hated Facebook and 90% of my 'friends' on there and stopped using it over a year ago. It was a useful tool to catch up with a couple of old friends I'd lost touch with, but lost any kind of real value to me when every five seconds I kept getting poked by a zombie vampire farm scrabulous twat and circular emails about how someone's found the address of a 'peadoe' so we should all go around and post dogshit through the door (and worse).

I deleted my account 3 months and haven't looked back.

I didn't change my facebook picture (I didn't even realise it was for an actual cause) but if I did, it would be to either Bert from The Raccoons or the Gummi Bears. It has, however, made me sad that despite trying forever to try and get on Fun House, I never made it.

I don't see how changing a Facebook picture makes any difference. It'd make more sense if each person who had it changed donated a Fiver or something so it actually shows they are doing something worthwhile. I ignore all the Facebook bollocks campaigns.

I actually changed mine in response to another persons status that said it was just a bit of fun to replace people with their favourite cartoons for the weekend. It seems somebody then added NSPC or anti paedophile sentiments, this was not the original idea and was probably just someone who thought they were being clever by spreading it more quickly. Ill thought out but typical Facebook. I will not be donating to any charities and I have no intention of doing any good for mankind through my Facebook profile picture.

During the election suddenly a few people that I worked with back in the day or went to school with suddenly revealed themselves as racists and idiots with a bunch of 'we can't celebrate Xmas? Then you cant wear you're (sic) turbans!' and other shit like that. I also lost a few people who wasted my time with invites to either support the troops or find Maddy MaCann (their spelling).

Also, I've got a couple of people on there who I can't get rid of but add nothing good to Facebook so I've got them on a limited list where they can see bits of my profile but can't write shit on my wall or comment on stuff.
