I've been assigned a new project by the powers that be...I need to buy a tent as a Wedding Present, probably 2 or 3 man one but it must be light (as I have to transport it across Europe).

So do we have any camp so and so's on the forum? What makes should I be looking at? ?:|

Explain please for I am ignorant about such matters, if there's no running hot and cold water you can piss off as far as I'm concerned.

Pop-up ones are excellent and save loads of arsing about with poles and stuff. They are slightly bulkier when packed though.

Been a while but if my memory serves (good luck) I had an Ariel Dome tent which was a cinch to put up and was very light. It said 3 person, but really only held 2 and stuff. Nice it was.

I have an aces 2 man tent at home - I'll look up the make/model.

It's an easy to put up dome one.

Vango are my personal favourite.

I'd probably go for a Vango Spectre 200/300 (2 man/3 man)

Vango were certainly the tent of choice for 2/3 people when I was camping in the scouts.

Or you could always go for a patrol tent!

You do need 3 people to erect it tho.

Now for the ultimate in camping extravagance, you want a yurt. Seriously, they're awesome.

Not sure I could fit a yurt into my baggage. Anyway the Tipi is the way to go.

So long as you can have a fire in them. That is luxury.

Well.
Pop up tents, as said, are fantastic but make sure they are around 3000mm waterproofing at the least. Make sure it's double skinned ofc.
I have trawled the net every year for the nicest, cheaper tents and this site is great... Tents

I just bought this as I cannot easily put up my 5 berth tent anymore when I am on my own. Well, it's nearly impossible now.
Dome tents are fantastic imo, lightweight, easily erected, easily stored, easy to upkeep etc
In some ways I miss the fun of older style tents (back when I were a cub) but I swear by my dome/pop up tents now.
Even the non pop up ones are easy to put up.

YES! FOUND THE THREAD!

I would like recommendations for battery powered lighting. I've attempted a few different types over the years and almost all apart from the Gas burning ones have been crap.

The reason it has to be battery powered is due to the festivals not allowing gas canisters any more.

LED or Fluorescent Tubes seems to be the only options... but has anyone found one that does a good job?

Cheers!

My wee cousin took a 4 quid windy-up Tesco one to Rockness, I'll get his verdict when they get back but it had a reasonable lighting time from a wee bit of winding.

I've got one of these. They must run on Voodoo, as you wind it twice and it stays lit for fucking ages.

A decent LED lantern is probably your best bet. They work, last for ages and come with a car charge cable.
If you want more light for the money, get a garage work light instead.

Handy advice: if taking partners back to your tent, remember to turn the lights off.

Goody! Just not sure the LED one's give off much light or indeed normal light but I've not seen any real modern examples.
