The village hall is abuzz with noise. All the villagers have assembled for an extraordinary council meeting - the sheriff has something to tell them all. Silence falls as the familiar portly figure of the sheriff mounts the dais at the front of the hall and calls for quiet.

"I have received important information that everyone needs to hear" he begins. "We have enjoyed years of peace and quiet, and the opportunity to raise our families without needing to fear for our safety. It appears that all that might be at an end - for there are villains hiding amongst us! At the end of this meeting I will be arresting the following people for crimes against the people of this vill..."

A shot rings out. A neat bullethole appears in the middle of the sherrif's forehead, and he drops to the ground, blood rapidly pooling around his corpse.

There is uproar. The villagers are running from the room, screaming and wailing. No-one saw who took the shot. No-one knows who the sheriff was about to implicate. There are criminals in the town.

It is Day 1. With 20 players alive, 11 votes are required to secure a lynch. Day 1 deadline is Thursday 9pm.

I had an odd dream where the whole village was killed but he (Mr Dave) was left alive and laughing maniacally when I woke up.
You'd have thought my own hanging one eighth of the way into the dream would have woken me up, but no.

That doesn't make any sense to me, the inmate just has to get killed, not get anyone else killed. He has nothing to gain by trying to finger someone else, does he?

Ok, I'm going to assume that Craster has given out as many roles as possible, and also that there aren't quite as many mafia as last time (for fairness, somehow), and so with that being the case, I make the following speculation about specific numbers of characters:

3 Mafia Goon(s)

1 Mafia Roleblocker

1 Serial Killer

1 Cult leader

1 Tracker

1 Escaped Inmate

1 Asylum Guard

1 Voyeur

1 Vigilante

1 Doctor

1 Mad Scientist

6 Townies

1 Revered Prince

So that's just 4 mafia and a SK to worry about, and the Vigilante, I suppose. He wants the town to win but will probably kill someone every day just because they can, dangerous stuff.

The scientist you mentioned earlier can kill people too.

Don't we also have to stop the cult before they take over too many of the town too though?

But remember, as townies we're not arsed about identifying the convict, his hunter, the professor, or anyone else who isn't a direct opponent of the town. As an ex-mafia honcho I reckon I'll be able to spot one of my old kin immediately.

So while I'm at it I might as well strenuously insist I'm not mafia, because I think that would be a bit too obvious (and dull for me) two games in a row. Similarly I'm not the serial killer, if I was I wouldn't really need to speculate about anything, I'd probably be mostly silent and just kill you all at night. Rest assured I'm on the town's side on this one, the question is did Craster give me an interesting role, or am I just a plain nonce this time around? My money's on nonce :'(

We do, but a quick peek at the rules reveals that being the cult leader (let's call them 'Scientologist') seems fucking hard...

ComicalGnomes is trying to be helpful! Those who want to stay around try and be of some use. So logically he is a bad guy wanting to worm his way though the game by being useful. Therefore:

Don't mind me, I'm just a-sortin' out the post to deliver today. Ooh, Mr Grim... it is a walk up your 1/4 mile driveway to post my load in your box and no mistake. Looks like Mr Dudley's badger repellent has arrived judging by the size of this package.

Yeah great, kill me today and leave yourself with unhelpful people, you'll feel like twats tomorrow. Must remember to spend 80% of the game not saying anything, as that's how a fair few people survived last time. :'(

Still, I'm all for petty revenge.

I'm torn now. On the one hand ComicalGnomes is protesting too much, on the other hand I'm suspicious of people who seem to want to start getting voting rallies going.

So, I'm suspicious of BlueCup, too. And the others who jumped straight on to the lynching bandwagon.

Ack. I don't know. I'm going to wait a bit before voting I think.

Phew, Mr Owen, you may have to wait for your post this morning, what with you living way out there on the edge of town on your own like you do, I'll have to get the van out when I finish the rest of my rounds.

I dunno though, although it's early days to be condeming ComicalGnomes, on the first turn there isn't very much information to go on. As Craster said, the best thing to do is almost pick someone at random. Damn, this is hard!

I'm struggling to know how to play it this time around. It was pretty obvious that I would be one of the first to go last time (as 'known' people will always go first), so I just told the truth, which didn't help at all.
I've got a horrible feeling that whatever I say, I'll die, so fuck it:

I AM THE SCIENTIST

I'm not a massive advantage to either side.

I pwned you all hard in the last game, so I won't be crying too much into my pillow if I go early this time. You'll still all feel like twats though :DD

Evidently though, silence FTW.

For no reason other than that his name reminds me of "Big Chris" and "Little Chris" from Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. They were gangsters, and thus I think that Mr Chris is possibly Mafia.

Bah - I've got little chance of that. Not only do I not know what the buttons marked 1-6 on my device actually do, but their function changes each day anyway, so it might as well be one big one marked 'press at your peril', which could, of course, kill me.

It's a shame there's no cop in this one, because my tactic for that would be to reveal myself instantly. Why? Well, I'd just say 'I'M THE COP, SO DOCTOR, WHOEVER YOU ARE, PROTECT ME'.

Nobody will lynch him, the doc will protect him, and the chances of the doc dying early are very small, so you'd get at least a few days worth of useful info you could share with people. If you found a mafia guy, you'd lynch him immediately and it'd be a quick day, and if you'd found a townie, you'd keep quiet until it looked like they were going to be accidentally lynched. Simple!

It's a shame there's no cop in this one, because my tactic for that would be to reveal myself instantly. Why? Well, I'd just say 'I'M THE COP, SO DOCTOR, WHOEVER YOU ARE, PROTECT ME'.
Why would people believe you when you said that, though? Wouldn't all the mafia scum also be saying "no, I'm the cop, he's a lying scumbag"?
