It rocks it does. I think it is most awesome. Makes me sad I will never go to space though. But maybe it is for the best, as I would attempt to steal the shuttle and fly away with it.

Well, the Virgin space flight thing makes it kind of possible that you would go into space.

I have an idea. Someone set up a fagbook group, called "Give money to send MaliA into space" and then give me the money, and I'll nick the space shuttle. You can write a review of it, or something.

Put your lottery winnings on a horse with odds of 1000000-1. If it wins, the Russians might let you tag along on one of their missions.

Once again a plug for the book Plissken recommended a while back: Riding Rockets by Mike Mullane.

It's on Amazon quite cheaply too, although I know quite a few people here have read it already - but still, it's ace.

It's being retired soon and they're replacing it with Apollo-style capsules again.

Also, Orbiter.

If you do plan on nicking the shuttle this might come in handy Mali:

Ooh, nice. I'll print this off at work - just in case MaliA needs to assemble a team of nerd-rogues.

bout time too. The shuttle, whilst awesome, has held us back a huge, huge amount.

It actually much less efficient to make a recyclable ship than it is to build rockets and capsules.

That and it can't go very far. It would never be able to take us to the moon for instance. Capsules are much easier to send further. They just don't look as cool.

BETEO trip to space? I nominate myself as captain as I've experience with nicking things in space.

Aren't the European Space Agency planning a reusable space shuttle-a-like, based on their Jules Verne cargo pod whatsits?

I hope so, I really do. As in many things, breaking US hegemony is a good thing for progress. Plus, we can mount lasers on them and create a space station entirely populated by attractive Germans.

Then you can remake Moonraker. Until then, they're German.

Hey, Mr Chris?

Are you the captain?

No, thought not.

Vote Mr Chris

Thanks for voting for me as Captain. I'll let you roger the cabin boy.

Anyway - an article here on the EU "shuttle".

It'll be sent up on Ariane boosters, so it's nowhere near as cool as the Shuttle. Back to the drawing board, ESA.

Still, manned flight is a first for the ESA, so they're at least raising their game a little.

They've already done this in the porn world. It's called "The Uranus Experiment".

Look at this. It's one of the best images I've ever seen. (it may have been mentioned here before though).

It's the Phoenix Lander a bunch of metal, plastic and electronics flung across the solar system to land in a specific crater in mars being photographed by another bunch of metal, plastic and electronics flung across the solar system to take photographs of mar's surface.

Not only could humanity manage that but we also managed to make them precise enough one take a photo of the other as it floats down on a parachute.

Humanity fucking rocks.

Even if we wipe ourselves out, at least our record will show some really awesome shit.

Good point. You're in.

I've worked out a way to steal one of the shuttles. We can get it when it is piggy backing on the 747. Then we need to get it into space. I'll let Mimi work that bit out.

You know that the 747 they use for that isn't a passenger one, so you're unlikely to be on that flight, right?

Ever seen Executive Decision? We can just do the same wot the commandos did in that. All we need is a specially retrofitted F-117A.

Steal a stealth bomber, sneak up on it and the abseil in through the entrance hatch, like in that film.

I wonder where we'd be if the US had carried on spending the same amount of cash as they had done on the Apollo project. All that money they spent making nuclear missiles and bombing Laos could have been spent on something both useful and awesome.

Mimi can make monkey a space suit (I recommend use of tinfoil) and then act as his handler to infiltrate where the space shuttle is parked. As Mimi can fly a 747, all we need now is for Grim to buy us an island base with a runway (I recommend Tracy Island) and spaceport and all is sorted.

Island. Check. Beach. Check. Runway for a 747 to land on. Check.
