The Aussies won the toss and batted first, and I got them all out for 240-something, which I was reasonably pleased with, and I know my general bowling was getting more accurate.
So then my turn to bat.
In about 15 ridiculous minutes, I soon found myself at an utterly pathetic 17-8. I then decided it was a little too early to have moved up a skill level. I mean I seriously cannot explain what happened because I didn't think even I was that bad.
So I started over and went back down to easy. The Aussies again elected to bat first and I got them out for 170-something. I then went in and have just now saved the game at 25-0, so that's a lot better!

What were your wickets like? The ones you gave away?
Was it just badly timed shots resulting in catches? or were you going for shots you really shouldn't have?
I think, in hindsight, it was almost definitely bad timing on my part. I just need to learn that it isn't necessary to try and twat every ball as hard as possible, even in a 20/20 match!
Also, I suppose with upping the skill level, things the AI let you get away with before, now doesn't work.

I've found in my brief foray into test matches that the bowling is very different. In the limited over matches the bowlers are trying to get you out and therefore become a bit easier to predict. In tests, the bowlers are probably trying to restrict runs or destroy confidence, making it harder to predict. I got out a few times to noddy slower balls because it looked like a 'twattable' delivery.

Im not sure how I'll fare in hard... it'll force me to be more patient, but Ive got normal down to a T now, so might be worth upping it, but I want the achievements! D:

Reading that reminds me that I wish someone would come up with a list of the correct names for the other teams, I've edited some of the obvious ones but I'd like to change all the teams.
I've feel weirdly affectionate toward PES-style "Bryan Greggs" namealikes. I was actually a bit disappointed the first time I tried World Cup mode in BL07 and all the names became correct. I liked Freddy Flantiff and Minty Pansarian, dammit!
The name thing bothers me a bit, but it used to bother me loads more in the Pro Evo games since I know more about football than I do about cricket, so seeing an obvious wrong name would stick out a mile.

It's not really a big deal, I was just curious how long, in real terms, a big score/big Test match would take to complete. I quite like the idea of playing it 'properly', and grinding out a big score over a whole week, playing an hour a night or something like that.

I've just tried the demo of the PC version. I even brought my wired 360 controller into work for the occassion.
Using the conrtroller, the game's IDENTICAL. Shame it doesn't offer cheevos, or I'd be doing epic test matches for weeks.

Second test, won by 200 runs. Impressive opening partnerships in both my innings were followed by horrificcollapses and then rearguard fightbacks (I stop playing properly when I am 7 wickets down and slash out - my reasoning being that unless I need to bat out, I may as well get 50 runs from the tail quickly rather than prodding it about for 40).
Australia cannot deal with an aggressive field, and so I bowled them out for 100ish in both innings. The only reason that I am going to play this series out properly before moving to hard is that I have Jimmy and Swanny on 13 wickets each in 2 matches so far, and Strauss has a decent score in all four innings so there are cheevos to be had. I can tell its going to get tedious though, opening the bowling with those to just to get the points - I can also see a Brawn GP scenario after the third test where I choose my bowler who is going for the achievement and have to bowl deliberate shit at the other end to make sure the wickets dont fall to the wrong person. However, run outs may be my downfall here.

In my first bowling performance, Colly took the first seven catches in a row. The computer really does love hitting it to cover.

Now, this happened to me last night. I was just about to make a catch and the game froze. I'm confident it was the game and not the console. I was pissed off as it was a right early wicket I could have taken.
Anyway, started again (Ashes first Test, on easy), and got the Aussies out for a comical 60-something. There were a few silly run outs, but also my bowling has improved and I know this helped. I then went into bat and got a very respectable 250-something, and saved the game last night with Australia coming in for their second innings.
Also! I appear to have learned a bit of restraint and patience, as during my innings, I had two blokes (Strauss & Bell) forming a solid and fairly long partnership and getting to 50+ runs each (Strauss eventually getting out for about 76).
One final comment - I'm glad I swooped on this game when I did, as I noticed in Asda that the price is now back up to about 35 quid.
Been rinsing the achievements on this now. Only need hat-trick and top hat trick for 100%
