Well, we'll have plenty of stuff to play through when were rocking away in our piss soaked chairs with our arthritic claws.

I only have 400 points now, after spending 400 points on Worms, just so I could kill Myoptika on a lazy weekend morning.

I may see if anything that has been talked about is on for cheap.

Definitely up for some Wormage. It's been an ice-age since last booting it up though, so expect lots of misaimed grenades and accidental suicides. :p

Quote:
Q Entertainment is firing the higher resolution ray at its 2005 action-puzzler Meteos, originally released for the Nintendo DS. The result? Meteos Wars for Xbox Live Arcade, which hits the Xbox Live Marketplace this Wednesday.

The XBLA port of Meteos adds online multiplayer for two, a sharp 720p resolution and new accessories for your little alien buddies. Price to you is just 800 Microsoft Points.

Joining Meteos Wars this week is PowerUp Forever, spacey a top down shooter from Namco Bandai. It too will set you back 800 Microsoft Points.

Hmm.. I played the DS version of Meteos to death but I can't see me buying the Xbox version. Like Puzzle Quest, it's more suited to touch-screen controls.

Isn't it just a deck of cards? Like the millions of Klondike sets on Amiga PD, but costing 200 times more?

Only one person has to buy it, though, which is a good thing. It'll download the deck to the other players' Xboxes before the game starts.

i think that XBLA has been sullied for many of us by the sheer amount of dogshit we've had to endure this year. Even the big Summer of Arcade was a very mixed bag and with 1200 point games now being commonplace it seems people just aren't bothering with it now.

I mean last week's releases (Meteos and PowerUp Forever) are both pretty good but only a handful of people have bothered.

Actually the big new XBLA games are getting really price squeezed.

Launch.

2100 points could be had for £12.97 from Tesco. "big" XBLA games were 800 points or £4.94.
New release retail games are £40 at best.

Retail boxed games cost just over 8 times as much as XBLA AAA titles.

Xmas 2008

2100 points can't be has for less than £15.99 today. "big" XBLA games are 1200 points or £9.13
The biggest name games are £17.99 online a lot of the time now (Fallout 3, Prince, Tomb Raider, Fifa)

Retail boxed games cost just under twice as much.

XBLA is now effectively 4 times as expensive as it was then. Braid (now nearly 4 months old) starts to look a little silly at just shy of a tenner for 3-5 hours when Fallout 3 can be had for less than twice that and will eat. your. life.

It's even worse when you start looking at what you can get some big retail games released this year for. Pure is £9.99. Bully £12.99. There's nothing on XBLA released in 2008 that isn't still full price.

And that's if you ignore that I could walk into CEX and get more that half the price of either of those boxed games just mentioned in cash back.

But a 14 year old game with new clothes selling a quarter of a million copies at 1200 points makes your argument look like complete nonsense, Duds.

Don't ask me - I don't understand it, either.

I never said people weren't idiots but merely striving to point out the XBLA is significantly worse value in 2008 than 2006.

Anyone bothered with The Maw yesterday? I watched the video for it and it didn't look completely useless, but I'll save my points for something else I think.

I haven't been remotely tempted by anything lately. Last thing I bought was Galaga Legions, oh and the SF2 table for Pinball FX.

Where's R-Type Zomgo!

:this: Last demo I downloaded was that Kingdom for Keflings or whatever it was and I've not even loaded it up. I've not even been tempted to download that free Doritos game to get my gamerscore over 10,000. That Yaris has put me off adverts-as-games.

They are setting up a pattern surely. XBLA games in the summer Full Price in the winter. So we are in the lull for Xbla right now.

But we've got Space Invaders Extreme, Outrun Arcarde, Metal Slug 7 and FLACKS's Cleatus coming at the very least. Which is going to make for an awesome year.

But now is buying disk based games as they get discounted season.

(Or having a broken Xbox season if you are me).

What the fuck was I thinking. And I had only just finished reading about how well Platapus was doing 7 years after release. Fuck.

Please Baby Jesus Santa can you give me in 2009 on Live:

a. Some decent word games, Word Soup is OK as a start but Word Puzzle is a stinking piece of poo. Bookworm or Bookworm Adventures would be lovely
b. A decent Worms game, that abortion of a game carrying the name Worms is so cutdown that is qualifies for diability benefits. WWP should be no problem to port (for crying out loud the version on the PS2 was pretty feature-tastic).

Thanks Lord

Definitely Bookworm Adventures. Bookworm is nice enough, but it goes on and on forever, as it's more or less impossible to die.

The Worms game is basically the Amiga game with redone graphics, ie the original and best. I've found all other Worms games to be complete pants since.
