One of those things i remember being very scary in the past

"All irregularities will be handled by the forces controlling each dimension. Transuranic, heavy elements may not be used where there is life. Medium atomic weights are available...."

The Big finish audio books of them still manage to put shivers down my spine at times when they get it right.

I recently re-watched all the Sapphire & Steels, and they were as fantastic as ever. The only story I found dull was that one with the couple from the future, come back to the present time as an experiment thing, and their baby becomes an adult... Found it all a bit unsettling and tend to avoid that one. The others, though, I can't fault (especially love the one with all the clocks stopping, and the one with the solider in the deserted train station).

If someone has a thread they started, that they want deleted because it's upsetting to them, I'm going to delete it, frankly.

Thats understandable but then people like me constantly bringing it up because they don't know what happened, and don't realize they are upset isn't helping is it?

If I've seen a forum title calling one of us a coward and then the next minute it's disappeared then thats going to create doubt and confusion*. So I think the forum should record when and why it deletes a thread.

a) So that people like me and malc and so on don't open old wounds (sorry shin if it upset you :( )

and

b) So there is accountability to it not that I think anyone would misuse the ability, but there were people here who would claim stuff like that, and the lack of transparency means they can cause no end of problems.

* EDIT: To make it clear I'm not criticising the thread, I'm just saying that I can't managed to read all the forum 24-7 so It's easy to take something out of context, and without the ability to go back and check (cos it's gone) then that can get out of control.

Lave, I don't think you can equate this with someone criticizing/insulting another poster and then asking for it to be deleted before that person saw it, (in fact in that case, they could just edit/delete the post anyway).
From what I saw of the thread I don't think we've lost anything too important, and it was probably best to move on before any finger pointing started.

You are right, I'm not meaning to equate it to that, but I couldn't say that because no one had explained to me what had happened.

A simple line of text from a mod recording why 30 odd posts disappeared would avoid people jumping to conclusion.

Sorry Lave, I didn't mean to accuse you of anything. :)
I can see how it might have looked if you'd seen the title, but not the thread contents.

I think you make a good point Lave, and it's good that you have questioned the mods actions on this point, it keeps us on our toes. ;)

The simple version is that Shin posted something personal having good reason at the time to believe that an insult to her may have originated from these boards. As it turns out, it looks like it did start here, but the insult may not have been made directly through one of our posters (I mean we just wouldn't would we?). However it was only through discussing it in that thread that this information came about. Having a better idea of how to handle it, Shin asked for the thread to be removed so that no accusations and upset could be started, as mods we all agreed with that, it was a good decision.

I hope that helps Lave, now I'm not too sure where we should have posted that, suggestions are as ever welcome.

I suppose we could have just locked the thread and hoped it would have died and then you could have still read it, the problem is that some some people can't let things die so it would have caused mini-threads about the subject and these can then take over the boards.

/thinking out loud.

@Joans: Thats ok, I didn't think you had. I'm just worried about upsetting Shin.

Thats cools Goddess Jasmine. In my opinion I think we need a sticky in the top part of the forumy bit (where bargains and The week in review threads are) thats locked (I think it being mod only is v.important) but when a mod does something big with their powers they make a little record of it there.

So If they ban someone then they say who and why. (Just a line: "I banned MrBootyChops for being a nobber and posting about Queen"). Or if they delete a thread ("I deleted Shin's thread about an abusive post on her blog which was thought to come from a user here, on Shin's request, because it wasn't helping anything and she just wanted to leave it.") Or whatever.

That way I would have just read that. Thought "oh ok, thats where it went" and not opened old wounds and possibly helping rumours start.

That just my tuppance anyhow. :)

I didn't see it, but wouldn't it be easier to change the thread's name to "Shin's Thread - Requested Deletion", delete the posts inside it apart from the first one with a quick explanation, then lock it. So people who were posting know where it went.

Deleting it's fine by me though, if she started a thread and decided she wanted it deleted I have no problem with that. If the mods did something "wacky" I'm sure she'd call them on it.

I didn't see the thread in question, but if someone's cyber bullying via comments on her blog, boo and shame upon them. It's an unfortunate side effect of innernehness that people feel comfortable in saying vicious things to people from the protection of their anonymity. I've had a fair few death threats from my site since it started becoming a little more visited, and I only draw stupid childish cartoons.

Yeah Skeptobot has gotten me a number of death threats and this ytmnd I made to politely reply to an idiot who was making really offensively stupid sites (weston baptist stylee) about how famous atheists on their deathbeds all saw hell and turned christian got me really creepy horrible ones.
There are some fucking idiots on the internet.

That's amazing - it really lit up the sky!

I think I'd have been somewhat scared if I saw it, but I'd much rather have seen it than just missed it!

I got stuck in a "twelve" addiction the other day. For about 2 hours all I could think was "twelvetwelvetwelvetwelvetwelvetwelvetwelvetwelvetwelvetwelvetwelvetwelvetwelvetwelvetwelvetwelvetwelvetwelvetwelvetwelve" until the point of tears, and now it's happening while seeing that photo in my head.

Eleven is too tinny. Twelve has a lovely wooden texture.

Someone should ask them: What is the name of the high-fidelity sound reproduction standard developed by Tomlinson Holman at Lucasfilm in 1983?

I love Christmas so much, that I permanently have a Christmas Countdown Clock (obviously, does exactly what it says) on my Vista desktop.

As I type, we're on: 31 days - 5 hours - 12 mins - 20 seconds. I love Christmas, me. :)

Gomes is a liablity. It wouldn't be so bad if he didn't keep rying to punch our own players, Chuckle Brothers style. We call him Comical Gomes. OK, I call him Comical Gomes.

Come back Comical Gnomes! :( This board is unbalanced without your furious anger.

The Spurs/Stoke game was certainly a good example of that. Spurs were lucky to have any defenders left after that one.

Corluka must really have annoyed him, hehe. he wasn't going to stop beating him up until he was hospitalised.

Gomes seems liek a bit of a flapper, I don't feel confident in him, I watch through the gaps in my fingers every time the ball comes to him. The time where he basically put the ball down in front of the opposition to take a shot, as well as his numerous GBH attempts on his team mates make me think that he has not developed the right levels of awareness of his surroundings and other players.

Yes, I used to play for a girls' team when I was younger and was scouted to train a few sessions with Arsenal ladies at one point (though I was very young - 10 or 11) but I at that same time I had to choose between football and being a gymnast - the body can't develop to be properly suited for both things, and being a gymnast was my first love, and I also noticed that I did not 'like' most of the older players on the women's side - they were, and this is going to sound terrible - 'too boyish', too 'rough' for me. Despite playing football I was probably the girliest girl you ever did see. Craig has a couple of photos of me when I was younger, and I am dressed and also had the poise of a cross between a child from the Victorian age and a ballet dancer, but I was very quick. To my young girl's mind I was somehow worried that I was going to have to cut short my hair and shout a lot. How stupid does that sound? I just didn't seem to fit in with the older girls who I was playing the game with.

Anyway, so I chose to be a gymnast, which turned out to be wrong as I eventually became too tall after a sudden spurt when I was about 14. When i met with my stepdad the other week he said the only time he remembered cryng was when he came to pick me up from my gymnastics class with my grandad and the trainer asked me to hang back and told us that I would not be able to properly carry on training as a gymnast. I was going throug a growth spurt, I was going to be too tall. I don't remember him crying, but my grandad I definitely remember being very quiet, and buying me a milkshake, and not speaking. They then wanted to train me as a diver, but I saw a terrible accident at the diving pool (actually the same day that i was told I could not be a gymnast) and could never then bring myself to even try. Actually, I can't even swim now.

But I still enjoy watching the football. When my twin brothers were born one was caught by the evil Man U supporters at an early age, but I instilled in the other a sense of better things and taught him all about Spurs. He's captain of the under 15s local team now, and they haven't lost a match for two seasons. Their last win was 9-0.

When I was in my late teens I wanted to marry Ian Walker. Huh!

Oh, sorry, you didn't ask for my life story through sport, did you? :) I should to bed, it is 1am ad I am blabbering.

Nighty night all x

Anyone suggest a good way of getting shot of a PlayStation 2? It's the old fat version, but a later revision of the old fat version lacking the iLink port. It's in good working nick with half a dozen games too, had little use really. I had thought of the options, but my limited knowledge leaves either selling it on eBay (don't have time to get the packaging sorted out or post it) or trading it in at Gamestation. I'd rather avoid the latter as the 'profit' probably won't cover the train fare. Must be an alternative.

Have you considered Freecycle? Check it out on Yahoo pages. Once you've found someone who wants it, they come to yours or a mutually agreed place to collect it. I keep meaning to advertise Curiosity's spare telly there, but meh.
