I vaguely remember there was some interest in doing a BeEx Secret Santa this year. As we're getting closer to Christmas I thought it was time we moved on a step - and I hope no-one thinks that I'm setting myself up as a self-elected chairperson ... just see me as a facilitator.

If you want to take part in the BeEx Secret Santa, simply PM me your name and address. On December the 1st I'll randomly assign pairs of people as Santas and Santees and send details out via PM.

I'll only tell people who they are buying for and their address, so the recipients won't know who has sent stuff to them (as is the idea of a Secret Santa).

If you want to put a note in your package to tell your recipient who their Santa was then that's up to you :)

Also, to make things relatively cheap and simple, if everyone aims for a budget of between £5 and £10 for their gifts? If you want to go above that then that's up to you. You can also make stuff if you want, so your gift is closely tied in to your creativity :)

So, any takers?

So is this going to be in pairs? or is it going to be in daisy chain?

Not sure what you mean. The idea is that I get, say, 10 names and addresses.

I put those details in and then I get the computer to pick someone at random and assign it to each person.

So BeExer A gets assigned to BeExer C but BeExer C doesn't necessarily get assigned to BeExer A.

If that makes sense.

but a loop (like the book swap) would mean that you don't need an even number

You could just dump Shin, y'know. Wrapping her up and sending her to one of us is hardly my idea of a gift :p

Just assign at almost-random*, then you don't need an even number.

* Random, but switch any time someone gets drawn with sending a present to their own doormat.

You don't need an even number for the swap, Gaz.

Do it like this (this is from the first book swap)

Image

then any number is fine.

Also, I say yes, that's be great, and I will PM my address forthwith.

Yeah, it makes it a lot easier to organise.

I usually just get pieces of paper, make little slips, each with a name and chuck 'em in a hat, pick them out one by one and just lay them out in a circle as I draw them from the ht (which isn't a hat, it is a bowl or mug, but details, details, then just say that everyone sends tot he person next in the clockwise direction.

OK, entries are now closed and all the pairings have been sent over PM.

Remember, your santee won't know you're their Santa, so it's up to you whether you clue them in or leave them in the dark! Go wild, stalk them for a bit to get an idea what they like, that kind of thing.

Budget is £10 (preferably not including postage, as that opens up more options gift-wise) but you can go over that if you really want to!

The idea of this is obv. so people have something else to open for Christmas, so ideally you should post your gift before December 17th to give it plenty of time to arrive!

When people receive their gifts, can you send me a PM to let me know? I won't tell you who sent it, but I'll tell your Santa that their gift arrived. Thanks, and have fun!

Just a reminder for peeps to send me a PM when they've sent their gifts :) I can then tell your recipient that it's been sent, and mark you off on my Little Black Book.

I'll be saving opening mine until Christmas Day, but I'll be sure to post pictures when I do :D

First class deadline is 20 December; second class deadline is 18 December.

Oxford's militant posties are all going on strike on Monday to celebrate the festive season or something.

You don't have to get them posted out by the 17th, but by doing so it gives it plenty of time to arrive as I don't think 20th December is early enough for our shitty postal service).

I forgot to mention that I received my Secret Santa present over the weekend (by special delivery, no less!).

I have refrained from unwrapping it, and I will open it on Xmas Day with the rest of my prezzies.
