I vote purely on acting ability. Craig is a fine wirral man, but Steve Mcqueen is Bullit and The Great Escape and Towering Inferno!

Although Craig is early in his career, it's unlikely he's ever going to reach the heights of McQueen, who was one of the all-time great movie stars who just happened to be a champion race driver and coolest man alive all at the same time. I mean, come on, Bullitt? With the snarling V8 roaring as he punts it around corners, perfectly double-declutching his gearshifts?

Hmmm. Now I want to watch Bullitt.

Maybe it's just me but I don't think Bullitt is all that great. I know I've seen it more than once over the years but apart from that car chase I can't remember a single thing about it.

I'm always always baffled why Bullitt gets mentioned so high up the top of the list for classic car chase movies - yes it was ahead of it's time, but fuck me is it looking dated and slow nowadays.

Freebie and the Bean is much better and Ronin pisses on it from a great height.

Yeah, it was hilarious when his Mini always knocked over that Robin Reliant.

Also, Steve McQueen was a movie star. Yes he was cool, but he categorically was not a great actor. I haven't seen enough of DC's work yet but I would say he's already a better actor. Now, if you were to mention Paul Newman v Daniel Craig then I would go for Newman every time.

Craig was in Our Friends in the North, therefore he wins.

Surely Craig would win most of those by virtue of not being dead.

And would win the bumable one by being gayer.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with that actually, it is dated. Although it is still noteworthy for the wonderful soundtrack from the Mustang. I like Bullitt because it's a great movie, not particularly for the car chase.

Oh, and you missed Bourne 1 and 2 off your list. Particularly Bourne 1, which did a lot to reinstate the car chase into modern cinema.

Also, I agree that McQueen was a star, not an actor, but none the less remarkable for it.

Also The Driver, some good car chases in that.

I specifically left it to people to decide on their own criteria as to the Daniel Craig vs Steve McQueen question.

I went for 'in a game of tennis' and with Craig still alive, he'd win fairly easily. Obviously, once Daniel Craig dies, things even up somewhat.

My money would be on Craig, he's pretty stacked these days. McQueen was a lover, not a fighter.

I love the Bourne films, and I think they pee over the (recent) Bond films.

Craig would be too busy plucking his eyebrows and waxing his crack to have a fight, though.

Hoho! The villains will need more than that 'crotch laser table' to get Bond-Craig sweating, then.
