This is great, enjoyed that. Definitely share some of those memories, esp Cannon Fodder.

I concur, although I was surprised you didn't finish Cannon Fodder, I did it a few times, (I think I managed it once, with keeping one of the originals alive too - I did consider trying to do it without losing anyone, but It was far too hard for that) I struggled with Cannon Fodder 2 though, I don't think I got very far at all.
Skool Daze seemed like an amazing bit of programming when it was first released. So much more depth than most of the games of the time
Ooh, Skool Daze, that reminds me of this school I saw in March. Had to take a photo. It'd make a great real-life setting, I watched for a bit for someone standing on the stairs, firing a catapult at the geography teacher.

Windhoek, capital of Namibia. Full picture is like this:

Facing the other way you see the church, which is a famous view of the capital.

Not sure what I’d gave expected in Namibia, but that looks great

Well, typical shots of Namibia would be desert and safari pictures. If your contact is me, who didn't really fancy the rigours of a self-driven safari on his tod, then you'll get these as a summary:

Dune 7 (I nearly got to the top, but wigged out), Flamingos, Seals, Shipwreck on Skeleton Coast, Sunset in Swakopmund, a salty lake.

We have cat sitters calling in to feed our two while we are away on holiday.

They were left a live and now very plump gift by one of them.
I have a similar "gift" in my kitchen who is alternating between making himself at home under the cupboards, and in the baking tray drawer. T'was quite a shock when I opened the drawer to grab a tray and there was a fat mouse sat eating an ancient conker (we find the conkers everywhere, presumably because the previous owner believed the myth about them deterring spiders).

You'd think with four cats, one of whom brings back "treats" almost daily, this wouldn't be an issue... and yet here we are.
Woke up to a mouse head and some internal organs on the rug so I guess now we just wait and see if that was the mouse or another one that's been brought in...

Probably one for the Nay but Yay thread :)
These signs are clear enough.

But I’m not sure how effective they will be in practice.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!

I'm glad to see people take Fire Safety seriously. A non-Fire Door there would be a disaster waiting to happen

If they can't even be bothered to lock the door, I'm not sure they are as committed as you think.
It says "Keep shut" not, "Keep locked" TBF
You should never lock a fire door. Imagine if it were locked and there was a fire there now, there’d be no way to escape. Everyone would be trapped behind that door.
Plus, why would you even need to lock it? It clearly says "No Entry to Unauthorised Persons". Only the authorised can enter, therefore there is no need for a lock.
But what are they hiding?
Ooh, is Dark Season available on iPlayer?
I think the line is "...but they never tell you why".
Ha!

Had forgotten that.

Did the writer do anything else?
Some sci fi thing for kids. Bit pigeonholed tbh.

If the brook is on fire, we've got bigger problems

It's a common mistake but I think you're getting fire doors confused with fire escapes. Fire doors like that one must always be kept closed in order to prevent the spread of a fire.

Fire doors should be kept closed, not locked, surely? Hospitals and schools are full of fire doors and they’re usually heavy swing doors that return to place, but you can still pass through them.

All this discussion is moot. There are bloody great holes in it, so it wouldn't hold the fire for the required period. Wouldn't even stop smoke.
First it was crypto mining, now electricity grids creak as AI demands soar

There’s a big problem with generative AI, says Sasha Luccioni at Hugging Face, a machine-learning company. Generative AI is an energy hog.
“Every time you query the model, the whole thing gets activated, so it’s wildly inefficient from a computational perspective,” she says.

A Generative AI system might use around 33 times more energy than machines running task-specific software, according to a recent study, external by Dr Luccioni and colleagues. The work has been peer-reviewed but is yet to be published in a journal.

Oxford Mail: Oxfordshire firefighters rescue cow with head stuck in tree

The article and pictures are slightly ....

moo-ving.
Udderly ridiculous.
Slightly menacing, the "this was the tree". Sounds like revenge served!

I could go on, but I won't milk it.
The UX of lego interface panels (or, I'd say, general UX with some reference to lego space terminals).

Fire door update. It’s now locked and achieving something. I just saw a jogger hop over the stream and up the stairs, not realising it was padlocked. He went back down then up the bank and round it.
Idiot. He could more easily have climbed over the side.

Good call. I wouldn't be working, but I would need to be up for the school run, if it wasn't half term.

Yeah, but you can go for a jimmy, then go back to bed for a couple of hours.
Kieron Gillen talks about PC Gamer (and a smidge about Amiga Power). Scroll past the comic stuff to get there.
