Amidst the Marvel and Star Wars news, this Alien based TV show, might have slipped by. It's being done by Noah Hawley (Fargo and Legion Show runners) so it might be really quite good!
Could be good. Probably won't be, though ;)

This bit in particular doesn't sound great:
Quote:
“scary thrill ride set not too far in the future here on Earth.”

I get why they're setting it on Earth, but it just seems lazy when there are squillion different stories that could be told that don't involve Earth being infested by the Aliens.
Grim... is going to love that
Cor fuck, yes he is.
The new series of The Movies That Made Us on Netflix has an episode for Aliens.

There's not much in the way of new information if you've seen the special features on the DVDs, but it's fun to see some of the stars come back to talk about it.
Oi dohw kno how much yow lot loik minis and 3D printings, but https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wa ... escription
I especially like "Sad wonder mute child" and the alien gigerian with honking great big tiddies.
Alien rpg fun tonight with the Rummage Inc gang from our beex D&D group. Since it was Halloween, and I was filling the role of Game Mother, I couldn’t really dress up as anyone else could I?!
Hachette are doing a partwork to build a half-scale Aleon

https://alien.hachettepartworks.com/

I suspect it will be expensive at the end.
Oh I'm gonna tag @Grim... on that one.

How long has tagging given a drop down of users? Nice.

"Subscribe now and you’ll receive your first pack with kits 1-4 for a special price of £24.99 with free P&P. After that, you’ll receive subsequent packs with 8 kits monthly for £94.99 + £5 P&P. "

"There are 13 packs in the collection" 8)

At over 1200 quid it is expensive, but then again it is a pretty big model. I bet it looks cool.
I'll buy it from someone else that built it, otherwise they'd stay in the packs forever.
Just get two lots
Not because I don't want to open then: because I CBA to build it!

How much of a premium would you be willing to pay for that?
I'll do it if you want to buy me a copy too. So one for you, one for Craster, one for me, and then delivery costs to you and Craster. About 5 grand should do it.
Oh I forgot the service charge and tip. 10 grand.

Roughly -75%, if past experience is anything to go by :D
Twelve pound coins taped to a piece of card?
I’ve just been emailed by Everyman cinemas and they’re screening the director’s cut of Alien next week in selected venues.

If you’ve never seen it in the cinema, I strongly recommend a viewing, as it’s an amazing experience
Ooh, that's neat.

The Director's Cut of Alien is actually shorter than the original (not by a lot, but still) and Ridley Scott considers it "not as good" :)

Still worth a watch, though.
I’ll have a proper look at their website. It seems odd that they’re not screening the 40th anniversary restoration version that got cinema screened in 2018. That was an epic experience. I saw it at the BFI with quite an eclectic audience. There were clearly quite a few 20 somethings on dates, some of whom had clearly never seen the film.
Oh, and they’re doing Aliens the following week!
I'm seeing Alien and Aliens at the iMax next week.
Absolutely gutted that I can't make it to the IMAX for that. I should have booked the ticket ages ago when you first mentioned it to me, Grim... !

Perhaps they'll do something similar next Alien Day ;)
I'm trying to get my real-life friends to come with me to see aliens on wednesday. Got 2 takers so far

I forgot to mention, whoever booked the seat next to me didn't turn up [rolling eyes dimlie]
@Grim..., how's Dark Descent? Any good?
Loving it, obv. The TTK on the drones is too high IMO, but I'm enjoying it. It's brutally hard!
Waiting to see if it drops in price in the summer sale before I take the plunge...

There is about £8 off it at shopto just now (for either console or PC)

I wonder if they’re hoping that this movie will do for Alien, what “Prey” did for Predator.

I remain unconvinced, I’m not going to get my hopes up ;)
Ooh, no. I shall read it later, ta.

If you are a eBook chappie I have the new Vasquez book if you want it (I have no idea if it's any good).
Oh, and sorry, I didn't realise I hadn't replied to your message there, Grim... -- I've already got it, ta :D
That has the look and feel spot on.

Teaser trailer for Alien: Romulus

Actually looks pretty good!

That looks like it might actually be good!
This A34K thing looks super interesting. I've always been such a huge fan of Alien3, always championed it. BUT the last time I watched it (Assembly Cut), I really struggled with how dull the whole end sequence is. Just people shouting and running around in tunnels while the world's worst looking alien chases them. Up until then it's pretty much a 10/10 film. So I'm hoping this edit and SFX work really sorts that out.

Hoping Romulus is good. I've been thinking that going low budget is the only way to capture the old magic of things like Predator/Alien/Terminator but usually that means poor CGI. I didn't think all that much of Prey. It was better than Predators and The Predator but not a patch on 1 and 2. 2 is still the best.

I really enjoyed Dark Descent but got caught up on a really tricky bit about five missions in and now I'm not sure I'll remember how to play it if I go back. Was really good though. Probably the best Alien/s game out there.

Alien Isolation was so dull.

What it does well is nail the atmosphere. But that's kind of handed to you on a plate when making a game set in that universe.

Everything else was pretty boring. Aside from the fact that game is just SOOOOO LONG, there's also far too much backtracking and crawling around looking for switches and whatever. The alien is meant to be the star but it doesn't move like it should. It walks around bolt upright like it's a prisoner guard in a German WW2 camp. And the way it Scooby Doos it's way through a door on one side and then comes out somewhere else is just annoying. The human enemies aren't used enough, the androids are more of a chore than anything and the map is stupidly hard to follow.

Sure, the first few times the alien gets you, it's exciting but that gets old and then it's basically like playing a worse version of Bioshock where none of the game mechanics are designed for any sort of enjoyment. The new Outlast game (Outlast Trials) does the scary hide and seek thing a fair bit better for me.
I am shook. Shook!

What did you think of Fireteam Elite?
