The father of Derek Redmond, one of the favourites to win a medal in the 400m at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. During the semi-final, Derek tore his hamstring, but tried to limp home, and his father rushed on to the track, batting away stewards, and helped his son over the line. One of the most moving moments in sport, and inevitably brings me to the brink of tears every time I see it.
