The Mersey Ferry crossing can be terribly rough sometimes.

Looks like there's been a terrible explosion in Beirut and from the video I saw a good deal of the way in approaching Halifax Harbour in scale. Completely terrifying video. :(

That and the only-recently-tropical-storm Isaias hitting the US East coast somehow boosting into a high-end category one hurricane thanks to multiple sting-jets and pulling its energy from transitioning from an extra-tropical to a baroclinic storm while being wedged between two high pressure zones and running in directly over the gulf stream mean that 2020's reliably continuing to 2020.
I think I may have accidentally seen the same video. I didn’t realise that it was a video of the explosion, as I’d wrongly assumed the blast had already happened at the time of filming due to the smoke and fire already rising, but it is terrifying.

There's a few others showing the firework factory burning away when the grain silos go up. There's a visible shockwave peeling the roof off all the nearby buildings.
Not good

I’ve gone to the future and found a photo of the winner celebrating
Because it's going to take between 3-4 months like pretty much all the Actual Song Wars did?

Totally disrespectful
Fucking hell, this lightning is ridiculous:

Yes, very strange indeed. Lots of flashes but very little thunder.
That was properly mental last night. I've never seen that much lightning. Almost just like constant strobe lights in the sky for about an hour.
Yeah, was a proper good show.
We just keep getting all the "Jesus Christ there's going to be a helluva storm in a bit" weather.

Sum total so far after 2 days: a bit of light drizzle in the early hours.
It was straight back to that weather again today here. Feels like it's getting ready for another go.
It's still 30C, clear blue skies and more humid than a swimming baths.

At least last night a good strong breeze picked up, it is dead calm now.
And when I say dead calm, I have a lot of trees to look at to judge that by.
Hooray, it's starting to kick off, all around us! Cool breeze, spots of rain, light show!
I’m in Bromsgrove and can see it over towards Tenbury. Looks amazing.
Yeah, we're about on the back end of where it's been sat.

Very odd having stars overhead and lightning clouds from about 70 degrees down to the treeline
The odd thing was it looked amazing but was almost silent.
We had 40 minutes or so of just pure lightning last night, then it was finally overhead - massive crack of thunder and lots and lots of rain, then back to continuous lightning. No break in the temperature/humidity so took bloody forever to fall asleep.
Yes and the power went off :(
I was watching the lighting map and could see it all heading up through Cheshire. Then lots of lightning again around midnight, a few big claps of thunder, heavy rain for a few mins and then it was gone further north.

Insanely massive, to boot.

I've heard loud thunder before, but this sounded like a bomb had gone off just a couple of doors away.

could have been me, i fell out of bed :)
Storm over the Shire and I can't remember if each second between a flash and a thunder is a mile or not.
Speed of sound is about 750 mph at sea level. So more like 0.2 of a mile per second.

Looked this up with the kids when we doing the home ed' bollocks, and it was something like add up the seconds and times by 2 to get the miles. Or was it divide by 2? :S Anyway, it's something like that :DD

ETA: it's 5, not 2:

Quote:
If you count the number of seconds between the flash of lightning and the sound of thunder, and then divide by 5, you'll get the distance in miles to the lightning: 5 seconds = 1 mile
Thanks. Nothing like realising you've been relying on half-remembered facts for most of your life. Think I'd better read up on Naismith's Rule later...
Sneaky miscreants supposedly set off two explosive devices at a local Co Op after midnight last night. I may have heard them, but that was around the time we had last night's storm so I wouldn't have thought it was other than thunder, maybe. Looks like they were trying to get the cash machine out of the wall. Police and bomb squad are there as there's possibly a third unexploded device or may be they're just gathering into about the devices used.

Evening News article.

Today I learned that the chamber of the legislature of Canada's Northwest Territories has a polar bear hide as a centrepiece. This is their second such hide as the first was stolen.

EDIT: Photo of a bear overwhelmed by democracy
I should keep off ‘wish’.
