Thanks dimmers. I'm currently thinking about how I'm going to paint the lines of the window trim on that car and it's giving me the palps. One of those bits where if it ends up bad it would be the only thing I could ever see when I looked at it.
I'm not above using sharpies for stuff i don't trust a brush with. They do a line of metallics for under a tenner. or use Frogtape masking. Make sure it's the low-tack version to avoid damage to what you've already painted.
Masking tape is useful.

I'd be too scared of going over with a sharpie and it might be hard to fix if I do. What I've done with plane cockpits before is brush paint, run a scalpel along the line and then use a sharpened cocktail stick to remove any paint that went over the line. But I think that only works because the paint sticks relatively poorly to the bare plastic, not sure if it would be the same here where it would be on clearcoat. Thought about masking but brush painting onto masking tape can be a problem because it has a tendency to pool a bit at the edge of the tape. I might try masking it but then pretty much dry brush the paint on in a few goes. It'll be a painstaking job to mask it off, though.

Fucks sake. Was going well with getting the decals on until I tipped the decal solvent all over the decal sheet

I have a cupboard full of boxed model kits that my father collected over the years. Mainly planes, boats and others — I'll have a look. IIRC they're mainly Revel models, but they date back to at least the 80's if not earlier. I'll post pics in the next few days if any of you guys are interested in them. I take it all back, there are lots of companies other than Revel, including Frog and Merit.

I think I'm just going to crack on, it could have been worse, I'd got most of the big decals on, just missing some of the smaller sponsor stickers and race numbers. So it'll be depicted as it appeared for pre-season testing.

About your window seals, I think I have some black Plasticote spray. You could try spraying some in a can lid and then painting it on, you should have a better chance of peeling it off if it doesn't go on right. Might be a good idea to try a test piece though.

Hnnghh, been wfh today so been nipping out to put a few coats of clear on. It seems to have pulled the colour coats away from the sharp edges. I think I should have done a mist coat first or something. Oh well, you live and learn.

In other news curse my impatience. Just got an email back from the Tamiya distributor saying they can supply new decals for £7.50 I'll still get some even though this model is starting to look a bit of a dogs dinner. Much less forgiving these cars I think, you can't make a mess and just dress it up as "weathering".

That Zero looks ace, Mark. The Japanese planes are a bit of an opportunity to go mad with the weathering, I think, and look very striking.

I can't remember if i posted these, but I scratch built some ammo and med pack markers. I quite like these.
Also had a go at some chain link fencing – I need to tone down the rust a little bit, but for something knocked up out of toothpicks, the netting packaging from some potatoes and some scrap foamboard I think they did ok.
I also had a play at weathering something. I bought one of those “4d puzzle” model kits off ebay, of the S300 SAM launcher. It’s a great kit for wargaming purposes, very easy to put together and pre-painted in a not terrible scheme – proper AFV modellers would, of course, weep at its inaccuracies.
And some random photos:
Next up will be the AH-6 and a couple of HMMVWs that are awaiting undercoats when I remember to do them one morning when it's cooler. I’ve also got a part build Hind I need to finish… I'm also planning on building a little wall-ey/woody area, building a ruined stone wall out of aquarium gravel LITERALLY PIECE BY PIECE BECAUSE I HATE MYSELF.

I did a nuln oil layer on my red TIE and then sealed it along with my blue X-Wings with some spray lacquer. Don’t think it looks much different tbh.

From what I can gather the compressor is fine and the airbrush itself serviceable with a tiny bit of tinkering. Looking forward to having a go with it, though.

The problem I've got is that I don't know where I can actually use it. Not sure how loud and messy it'll be. Don't really want to be out in the garage.
Spraying into a cardboard box is usually the done thing. I used to have an airbrush and the compressor was about as loud as a hairdryer on low.
Cool, I'll see what I can get away with. I know on YouTube they've all got actual spray booths with filters and fans, but I'm hoping that this won't be necessary if I stick to acrylics.
It’s the propellant thats the worst thing about rattle can spray. I’d wear a mask though still.
