My new car does not have a spare. It has gunk and pump.
Are these any good, or is it worth investing in a space saver?
They're fine to a point, but obviously there's a limit as to what they can do a temporary repair on.
I guess it depends how far away from home you're ever likely to be, and how much you value being able to get back on the road in the event of a tyre getting properly fucked without assistance.
I've always been happy with the gunk as my car never goes off the IOM (worse case scenario if I get stranded is ring a friend, catch a bus, or get a taxi), but if I were doing long distances in the UK I'd value a proper spare more.
As it happens the i30N came with a space saver spare anyway, but I actually keep a can of gunk in the car anyway as it's great for small temporary repairs that don't require the spare.
