Has anyone else been watching the women's World Cup? I've been watching the England games and I've really enjoyed them! This is coming from someone who can't stand football normally.
You stole my whole post.
Actually, it’s not that I can’t stand football, it just doesn’t usually interest me. The only exception has been the World Cup, because you sometimes see unknown or un-fancied teams scare the crap out of the front runners (didn’t Cameroon men play in bare feet aeons ago?).
I’ve really enjoyed the women’s competition this time. I’ve found it very entertaining, generally more sporting and less cynical than the men’s game, with a very good natured audience. I can understand why Cameroon were unhappy in their game. I think the referee didn’t control it well enough, and the VAR based decisions took a bit too long and they were arguably unlucky with some of the decisions that went against them.
Yes, the English ladies do tend to give the ball away too easily, but they’re not the only ones, and last night's game showed they have luck and brilliance in equal measure, and but for excellent defending when it mattered, the outcome could have been very different. The third goal was as good as I’ve ever seen.
