Is there any need to rush this decision? I mean, some of these people haven't even woken up yet. Could be that they remember something?

I don't think it's rushing the decision, because nobody in the room knows anything... Amnesia and all that. There's a choice to find out information* by lynching someone completely at random, or by everyone carrying out their night time investigations to begin the game with something to actually go on. I very much prefer the second option, but it takes 16 votes for a no lynch, so a large majority of people will have to have read and agreed for that to happen, so I don't think it will be too much of a rushed decision if it goes that way.

*Rule clarification, please! It says that once someone is lynched they are never heard of again. Does that mean that we actually get to hear about who they were, then? Or is that kept a secret, too?

Ok... I don't remember anything but it appears that's a theme. Something very strange is going on here but I can see literally no point in voting for someone when even if they were a murderer, they don't even know nor do any friends they have.

Note that I'm not suggesting we vote for a specific person instead. I'm saying we just wait a bit.

Bottom line is, while I agree that we shouldn't vote for anybody, I don't think there's any need to do so yet.

No, I didn't stop listening :( I must have just missed your following post whilst replying to Bobby. I was just explaining why I had the wrong figure in my head, as I knew I must have read it somewhere to have fixed that number in my mind.

As for the voting, just do what you think best and unvote if you want to wait. I'm pretty certain I want to go for a no lynch as I want the game to get 'properly' started as it were so I'm going to stick by my vote for a no lynch.

I want to get a nolynch done ASAP, because I'm pretty sure the night phase is going to be massive amounts of work for Curio, which amuses me.

Can you note just do the vote:unvote thing in square brackets, as if to unvote from a normal vote, or does that not work when inviting from a no lynch vote?

Must say the word vote more. Vote vote vote.

So the "man in the TV" has said there are bad people here

Curiosity wrote:
"Welcome to my little game. Please, look around you. A host of people with amnesia, and all of it my doing. These people may seem nice, may seem just like you, but rest assured they are not. Amongst you are several people who will kill you as soon as look at you. Within your ranks lie organisations; some criminal and others benign in intention. Some of you are professionals, some harbour secrets, some hide nothing, and some... well, this would be no fun if I told you everything."

These bad people will be doing bad things when they get their memory back - and if before that happens we vote for the "man in the TV" to take one of them then they wont get the chance to do bad things - so why should we let them get a 'free' chance ?

Given the other information I think what will happen is you will go into the maze of corridors and pick two names.
Something may or may not happen to those people and even if something did that doesnt actually mean that you caused it

(i.e. person 1 points at person 2 and person 3 , person 2 dies horribly and person 1 feels bad about it and thinks they might be a baddie , however it was just a coincidence).

IWe might as well vote for you then, right? You're just as likely to be bad as the rest of us.

Correct - I could be a bad person or a good one - but no-one seems to want to take a risk - is it because they think they *might* be a bad one and dont want to say anything 'just in case' ?

If your a bog standard person with no special skills your always in this position at the start of a game of Mafia Scum (although I have no recollection of anything else - i remember playing this on some forum or another) - you dont know who to trust or who not to trust - so those people on the town side who dont want to take a risk dont vote (or dont talk) and the baddies generally win.

huh? *yawn, stretch*
"Okay! I'm up, dont leave without me!" rolls out of bed onto the floor "oof"
"hey, where is this and who are you guys? and that big guy and the ginger one? come to that who am I?"
looks at tv
"why is there a broken telly over there?"
A recorded voice crackles over the speaker reeling off a list of names and instructions.

I take some time to understand whats going on, this turns out to be fairly tricky. I dont know who I am or what I do but I have dirty fingernails. hmm.

"does anyone have any tattoos?"

"zaphod makes a good point but randomly choosing someone to boot out seems mean so [vote:nolynch] "
"doesn't this mean its pretty random who we choose when the door is opened anyway? unless anyone has any tattoos of course..." *looks around room*

From what I know, amnesia isn't a permanent state, we might get our memories back, surely we should wait and see what happens, and use the time we have to the maximum.

On a pure logical basis is it better to do a random vote and have the chance of having a positive result? Does that outweigh the possible negative of voting for a good person? Without knowing how many people are out there who have bad intentions it is impossible to say.

I would like to think that we have more good people than bad, therefore we have a better than even chance of voting for a good person if we vote today. With no extra useful knowledge gained either way.

The maths tells us we should wait for now.

Why am I naked?
What is that I can taste?
What kind of a name is "Alarm"?

Umm.. uh.. ok.. I'm confused!

Thinking about what the TV bloke said, we get taken outside and asked to 'target' someone and 'contact' someone...

Target sounds a bit mean.. what if we all agree not to 'target' anyone, then maybe noone will be hurt overnight & we can all escape alive?

We'll 'have our memories restored' overnight though, so agreeing to do that now might be meaningless come that time.
