A fuckup :0)

I honestly thought I'd stayed clear day 1.

What I want to know is, where the hell did Curiosity come from?! I was in the clear pretty much, other than the odd couple of votes from Kalmar, which were being ignored, and then *bam*, Curiosity turns up with a "here are the bad guys" post. Whoah!

he more or less agreed with my list too tho.

What if the Bulletproof Townie has been recruited? Unless he gets lynched, that basically hands the game to the Cult, right?

Yeah. That threw me for a loop as no-one at all had even so much as glanced in my direction until that post. I don't remember Malc naming and shaming me at any time before that post either?

Crikey hadn't thought of that. They could have the vig too couldn't they? Shit, either of those could make it virtually anyone's game.

2 Mafia - both standard goons?
2 Cult, 2 townie. A bulletproof, a vig and 2 vanilla distributed amoungst?

Correct?

I have decided that the next game I run will have 0-1 cult recruiters and 0-1 mafia recruiters.

Because I'm mean.

And yes Duds - that's correct.

And mine. Honestly, the reply I made to Gaz when he asked me why I was speaking up having been quiet so long was more-or-less the truth - I was doing my best to stay off the radar while gathering information, and didn't see a lot of point in adding to the general waffling and speculation until I had something concrete to go on.

Yeah, that should really have read "I was doing my best to stay off the radar while I was gathering information and cultists." :D

Still slightly annoyed that the town's general shambliness meant I had to show my hand, but hey - they look like they could get a win out of it, so good luck to 'em.

I like it that it could go either way. There are many permutations of the endgame, depending on what happens, anyone can win.

Well you know where the vig and bulletproof are (and presumably at least 1 night action by now) so you must have some inkling.

That's an awesome idea. At least with the Cult.

Constructive criticism - I think there were a few too many roles in this game. And maybe one Mafia member too many. Given the Mafia's chunk of coordinated votes it was far too likely that the town would lynch a couple of their own in the early going and end up behind the 8-ball.

Admittedly it's worked out OK, but in large part that's because the Cult got lucky with everyone they tried to recruit, and so have been able to put the brakes on the goons in the late-game. But if Joans had gone Mafia instead of Cult this would be over by now.

Don't get me wrong, it's been massively good fun, and this is intended in good spirit, but I think this setup was tilted a fair bit in favour of the Mafia.

You didn't have to, in this case. But the option was always there. Even if you were taking care not to all get caught, two votes into the middle of a bandwagon would almost always give it enough of a push to gather the momentum it needed.

Not quite as bad as JBRs tracking skills in Game 2 though. Or Dimrill's sordid voyeurism, come to that.

I think the town were proportionally more powered up in this game to offset any mafia bias. Ok, its not as easy for the cult, but it's never easy for the SK either. I'd be surprised if even a good SK could win even 1 in any 50 games.

Yeah, I think the SK's appeal is in being a general mayhem causer, and perhaps some really nasty kill scenes. I don't think they have much chance of a win, but I also don't think they are a bad role to get, because you do get to stir things up so well.

The SB is a massive, massive boost for the town. An extra kill, plus the ability to do it whenever they like so they can pre-empt night kills is very handy. Add the fact that the vig is nowhere close to the loose cannon he usually is, and the mimic, and the town had a lot of very handy roles.

The town being powered-up doesn't really help, though, because they can't coordinate and share information. Giving the Mafia an extra member - and therefore an extra vote, and an extra body to help hide their voting - makes them an awful lot stronger, and though giving the Vigilante the ability to investigate and chucking in the Bulletproof Townie counters that a bit, I don't think it's enough.

Just a personal opinion, and given with the best of intentions. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the game, I'd just like to know if others had the same feeling.

I was going to say there's a bit too much going on to keep track of. A lot of the times after night events you'd just have to go "oh well, they died" and not really be any wiser about who did the killing and what roles were left. Especially when the same player gets targetted by 2 or 3 factions in the same night, all using a shotgun :)

It was still excellent fun, just a bit chaotic for noobs like me.

I actually didn't really like the fact that in the games I ran I was very obvious about who had killed who. I prefer some confusion. Especially as it means you get thinking like "But if you roleblocked X on night 3, then Y must have been a Mafia kill, not an SK kill! OMFG!!!!11!!!1". Much more intrigue.

I found that in Game II with the three opposing factions (cult/mafia/town). It's why I only specced two factions in my VampireScum rules. I'm sure three faction games are fine when you know what you're doing but as a n00b I felt a little overwhelmed.

You're supposed to be overwhelmed. Everyone around you is being killed in disturbing, horrific ways.

Remember this game isn't a logic game, it was developed as a psych experiment :D

You never know, I might be a dull person (although I'm open to avatar suggestions).

Actually since that milestone thread popped up the other day I have broken into the top 30 posters. Although it's mainly due to me not being able to shut my mouth in this thread. I think I had a total of 15 posts on WoS.

Hmm, true. I guess my nerdy nerdlinger scientist analytic viewpoint just wants to collate everything. For example I keep coming back to the idea of plotting shifting loyalties from day to day as a weighted graph, with vertex weight indicating a support/oppose scale of, say, 1-3 points; produce graphs every day and mine them for trends.

So, yeah, nerdy.

Definitely. Kudos, sir. To be honest, I don't think we ever had anyone on the shortlist of recruitment targets that we'd have missed, did we? Maybe LaceSensor, briefly?

I predict that one day there will be a forum meet. We will arrive at a bar somewhere, but it will be taken over by terrorists. We won't know who the terrorists are, because most of us will never have met each other anyway. The beardy beer club have met, so that makes us the masons.

When this day comes, I would like to point out that I will sacrifice every single one of you without the slightest trace of remorse.

You'll be dead before you even get there.

No. But I think Kalmar isn't immune to rape.

I'd like to take a bit of credit for that for while I was still alive. Not that Kalmar was much use.

Definitely. Kudos, sir. To be honest, I don't think we ever had anyone on the shortlist of recruitment targets that we'd have missed, did we? Maybe LaceSensor, briefly?

I can't remember now, and I don't have the inclination to read a lot of stuff to find out.
At the end of day 2, I had MaliA and Goddess Jasmine down as townies, but weren't sure whether we could get them or not.
The odds were really against us, so you did a good job. Better than the last cult leader anyway. :)

Well, I'll safe as you'll re-arrange the date so I can't go.
