You nobber, CG. :)

By the way, given that you guys are voting so quick during the day that I don't have a chance to stick in my input in the evening after Mrs Chris and Junior Junior have gone to sleep, its not my fault I haven't been able to vote today. So please dont be kicking me out. In fact, given that you've lynched two townies in a row, how's about you TAKE A BIT MORE TIME OVER IT YOU GIBBERING LOONS.

I was going to vote Lace Sensor, for what it's worth :)

Can I make a suggestion? Can we let the game days run 'til the scheduled temporal end, rather than cutting them short when the majority's been hit? That way those that aren't able to get on during the day can have their say, and it also gives people a chance to sway others' minds before the deadline.

Perhaps everyone should have to vote, or declare abstinence.

Post subject:  Re: Game II Chat Thread

Yeah I agree really, you can't have a majority vote for a lynch and then hang around chatting about it for another full day of real time.

A major flaw with teh game is that extremely quiet players are barely spoken of and don't so much as appear on the suspicion radar. *that* is probably the reason why townies get lynched, purely because they happen to be active players. I started talking on Day 1 and suspicion hasn't stopped since. To move the game along I've been pushing for lynchings of those I suspect to be mafia, but sadly they're just talkative townies.

There needs to be some kind of counter to just 'being quiet'.

I think more of a realisation that there's no hurry would extend the days a little more - but then again, once enough people have made up their minds, who wants to wait?

Some boards run these games on strict day/night cycles. E.g, midday-midnight is the day phase, someone is lynched at midnight. Midnight-midday is the following night phase, deaths announced at midday.

Another alternative is maybe say upfront "this will be a slower game, this will be a faster game" so people know what they are getting into.

Perhaps say we can only vote a certain number of times per 'day'? That'd force people to think first, at least. Might eliminate probing votes, though.

I think he said they were at some point, for the benefit of this game I think they probably are exclusive as if we find he is an evil genius, we'll probably have to take our collective hat off to him, rather than also calling him a giant twat.

I like this idea. Sort of.

Whatever the cycle is, it needs to allow those with jobs or on paternity leave, or on night shifts, or whatever, time to participate in both the day phase and carry out night actions.

Another alternative is maybe say upfront "this will be a slower game, this will be a faster game" so people know what they are getting into.

Some boards have roles that can PM each other, but only during the day or night. Fixed cycles play into that well. It'd be fiddly though, overly reliant on people making it online at certain times, which is tough across 20 people. It also wouldn't solve the problem that we'd decided to lynch LaceSensor by about 2pm or something and hence the decision was made. Making everyone wait 10 hours wouldn't have contributed anything.

Yes, it's hard. The people who can post from work naturally want the game to move along, but as you say, that means a majority can be reached without people such as yourself being able to participate. It'd be even worse if we'd been voting to lynch you yesterday -- you wouldn't have been able to defend yourself at all.

Did you want to reply to this bit? ;) If it works for enough people this is likely the answer.

I will admit that my voting (which seemed to trigger the final minutes for bluecup) was influenced to a fair extent by people moaning how much slower this game was than the first.

I think we can certainly make changes for new games, I'm happy to run one if required and I could certainly stick to a schedule.

Author:  Cras [ Fri Jun 13, 2008 11:32 ]
Post subject:  Re: Game II Chat Thread

It's worth a try. The problem that I've seen before with a set schedule is just that once consensus is reached, the game tends to just sit there until the deadline runs out.

The real answer, of course, is to stop pretending your real lives are more important than this :D

Well, indeed. It's a balance of "allowing the people with lives to have a say" vs "Making the people without lives bored" :)

I am definitely going to run a game, which I have been writing the rules for over the last few days (VampireScum, fact fans). Craster tells me that ComicalGnomes has volunteered to run the next game. I will post my VampireScum rules up for discussion at some point before the game starts.

I'd also like to have a debate across the board about game speed. It may be that there are a big group of people who want a fast group and a big group who want a slow game, and maybe we could alternate them, or even (in the unlikely event of there being enough people) run two games at once.
