Post subject:  Game IV Day II: "I killed my own father, Padre. I got no..

You awake, bodyclocks groggy from the permanent night, groans all over the village as alarm clocks sound too soon. The groans soon turn to screams though. Someone has found Bobbyaro.

He is in his house, tied to a chair, bound by his wrists and ankles, stripped naked. His torso gleams with a neat, fresh suture running from navel to nipple - sliced clean open and then stiched cleanly back up, except for a small hole from which his small intestine stretches out up to an improvised gallows above his head made from a chair stood on a dining table. The small intestine leads to the large intestine, glistening wetly in the feeble electic light, and hanging down from the top of the gallows. What used to be Bobbyaro's rectum is directly above his face, which has been tilted back and the jaw wedged open with a butterknife. Cause of death: choked and drowned on own faeces.

The villager with the strongest stomach, reteching from the smell, looks over the scene more closely. There is a stethoscope on the floor under the chair, coiled into a neat little loop, and oddly, Bobbyaro's incisor teeth have been neatly removed. Stitched into his cheek in neat little stitches -- same as the sutures -- is the number 20.

Looking around Bobbyaro's house, you find nothing untoward at all. He hardly even has any furniture and just the one set of clothes. Bobbyaro was a Vanilla Townie n00b. He'd only been here one day and now he's dead.

But that's not all! Shouts from the other side of the village! Malc74 is found in his nightgown in his bed, unmoving and pale. Upon initial inspection, he appears to be unmarked, but then one of the townsfolk spots something just under his sleeve near his wrist. It is a bite mark. Pushing back the sleeve reveal that his lower arm is covered in bites. One of the braver townsfolk lifts the gown. Malc74's body is entirely covered in bites, and he has been completely drained of blood. The townsfolk turn away, sickened. As they do so they notice the wall behind them is daubed with words, daubed in blood:

"Bite you, drink you, fun fun fun!
You're all going to hell, one by one.

The farmer, the baker, the butcher and his wife
Hope you enjoy what's left of your life!"

At first glance Malc74's house seems normal, but a shout from Dimrill: he was rummaging around in Malc74's pantry when he finds a hidden door at the back. Inside are stairs leading down to a secret meeting room decorated with hanging purple banners with an ornate hammer icon. Malc74 was a Masonic Townie.

Yep, the vampires chosing to kill last night is actually good news*, it means there's only one bite out there and if the person speaks up they're dead easy to protect.

Post subject:  Re: Game IV Day II: "I killed my own father, Padre. I got no..

I had to go and re-read the rules to find out how many killing roles there were.

If I'm interpreting it correctly, the serial killer or the costumed vigilante killed Bobbyaro, and the vampire childe killed Malc74.

That means that with only two deaths, either the costumed vigilante or the serial killer was roleblocked last night?

Ooh! Actually a shady visitor to my humble home tells me that some freak in yellow was hanging around my hosue last night! That means that I was trailed by the vigilante. I must have raised some suspicions. However, with the requisite number of actions being carried out by the childe and SK, I can at least prove I'm not one of them. And if someone speaks up and claims to have been bitten, then you'll know I'm also not the Sire, as if I was the Sire, any ability I had last night would have been roleblocked, due to being trailed by the Costumed Vigilante.

Okay then, today's questionnaire.

Quote:
How are you feeling this morning?

A: Terrified! Eek! They got two of us!
B: A bit lightheaded. I don't remember cutting myself shaving yesterday.
C: The voices in my head have been silenced, for the moment.
D: Absolutely full to bursting. I won't need to eat breakfast or lunch today, but I'll probably be hungry by dinner time.
E: Though it be no concern of yours, mortal, I am pleased with my progress and hope to welcome a new member of my dark family this coming night.

What's your favourite pie?

A: Blackberry and apple. With ice cream! Yum!
B: Ugh, I'm not hungry right now. But a pork pie can be okay. Somehow I'm not feeling like eating right at the moment.
C: A tasty liver pie, served with fava beans and a nice chianti.
D: Blood. Mmmmm, blood pie! Without, you know, the pastry or anything.
E: Pie... pie... I remember... my wife made me a mutton pie... that night... back in another life... before she died... before... this...

I appear to be bite free.
So I guess we can assume that we've got a serial killer, and only one (at most) person bitten.
We could still have a vigilante that investigated, but let's hope he doesn't do that too much after the last game.

Hmm. I was going to vote for you again, but I'm actually going to take you at your word on this. It sounds convincing. I hope I'm not making a big mistake.

I still think we need to stake someone, though I do accept that may be for emotional reasons than logical ones. The "kill 'em all and let God sort them out" attitude doesn't actually work for this game. But the longer we leave it, the less of an advantage we have as a town. We've already lost two good people.

I just don't know who we should stake.

There are 0-2 priests who can ask someone's role each night, so there are potentially two people who now definitely know someone's role.

I don't think you need a role to be told that you were being followed. When I said a shady visitor told me, I was referring to our humble narrator (Whom I will interpret as the spirit of our former mayor, looking on over the town, keeping us all safe).

Anyone tailed by the CG will spot him because yellow lycra isn't actually all that stealthy. Obviously if he actually roleblocks someone the target has to be told he was followed anyway. I forgot to note in the rules that I extended this to non-roled characters who are tailed as well. It means the target knows the Vig knows they are innocent, if that makes any sense.

However, the person being tailed doesn't find out anything further than "you were tailed".

Although it would be nice if someone could speak up and say they were bitten, otherwise people are going to assume I was the Sire and that I was roleblocked.

Speaky speaky you bitten one, and solicit the protection of Van Halen.

I don't think the Sire would go after the same person two nights in a row for the mere fact that Van Halen might be waiting for them.

IMPORTANT RULES UPDATE

I am not happy with how this game is going to play out. When I bumped the number of Van Halens to 0-2, I didn't consider how that would interplay with the number of vampires in the early game. As many people here have said, if people own up when they have been bitten and the VH(s) look out for them, the Vampires won't be able to recruit without serious risk of getting ambushed. And that will lead to a stalemate while the killing roles take people down according to their whims, which won't be much fun for anyone.

That's not the game I want to play. So, I am going to change the vampire's rules for Embracing people. They will still need to make two visits, but the visits will not have to be on consecutive nights. The second Bite from a Sire will always turn you.

I'm very, very sorry to be fiddling with the rules mid-game like this. I know this may piss some people off, as it may make you change what you wanted to do yesteday. Sincere apologies, but I think it's best to change this now, while the game is still getting started, than before it's too late.

Makes sense, it was largely unwinnable for the vamps as is.

Post subject:  Re: Game IV Day II: "I killed my own father, Padre. I got no..

I think I suggested something similar in the initial rules discussion. It does change the situation a bit, but if the town go down we'll have the satisfaction of knowing the rules had to be changed to stop us, Shaq stylee.

Post subject:  Re: Game IV Day II: "I killed my own father, Padre. I got no..

It's worth noting that the Sire does not have to bite. He could have sent his Childe to kill someone, and then decided that sowing seeds of mistrust amongst the townies would work better than biting someone, especially since at the time he believed that it would take consecutive bites for conversion.

We've not all 'checked in' today. There may yet be someone to wake up and find themselves a little bitten. It is their duty to declare themselves bitten and seek protection from Van Halen.

It's also possible that the sire targetted someone that couldn't be bitten. If that happens, he'll know that he got the one bite, but may not want to speak up to get Van Halen to protect him, as the Sire definitely won't return.
