I read on the BBC last week that if we don't fight in any wars in 2015, it'll be the first year in ONE HUNDRED that we haven't (assuming that we leave Afghanistan as planned this year). That's mind-boggling.

When you say, "we", do you mean Britain? Did it have a list of the wars? Or does, kern have a list of the wars?

I can well imagine that - we've had endless colonial wars and insurgencies. I don't know if they'd count the whole Irish thing as a war, but that would cover a fair chunk of that time period by itself.

Sorry, it was the Guardian, and 100 years of 'conflict', not necessarily war.

Also, the Guardian article is just another in their line of "isn't the UK and the West terrible, so much worse than anyone else, white man's guilt blah blah blah, btw Islam is awesome", much propogated by Seumas Milne (or Seumas Fucking Milne" to give him his full name). They had a great one about how we were all imperialists and so much worse because of it, neatly forgetting the Ottoman Empire.

Does that UN report actually mean anything, or is it just a case of "Something Must Be Done!"? Don't we have to have security council resolutions and things before it actually has any force?

Even if you have a security council resolution saying "this specific something will be done" (although it's more accurately "should be done, and can legally be done"), you have to get countries willing and able to step up and do the said something. Not sure anyone will be nuts enough to do anything here. At least now Dubya and "touched by God" Blair aren't in power.

OK, so let's say on the basis that stopping North Korea's brutal dictators being brutal dictators is a pretty noble ambition, let's say we have a world vote on it tomorrow and we wake up Wednesday knowing that we have all agreed to do something about it and that something IS going to happen...

The UN are a bit like health and safety, aren't they? All the rules and suggestions about what you can't do but no advice on what can be done.

What happens when any sanctions are inevitably broken...? I'm assuming all kinds of sanctions regarding trade are in place following the whole nuclear testing thing anyway?

Not sure anyone nearby wants to get into a cold war situation with North Korea. And he's a fucking mental, if he had any reason to think anyone was going to launch a missile, he'd surely make a preemptive strike.

I think you will find that the UN and the US and EU will not have the same appetite to bully a nation with these.

His regime is a disgrace, but the US and others are no better when it comes to ignoring law on freedom and even killing if if it suits them.

I'm confused. I thought Kim Jong was the UN. His Dad was ill (later died).

They might have a nuclear warhead, no one's sure though, and they have missiles that can't even hit a target as big as Japan.

I'm pretty sure the US can take them.
