I think I just felt a tinge of regret at a recent decision. Flying robot engineer sounds awesome!

I can think of so many issues with that. Won't work if it's windy, Range of a few miles, people stealing them, landing in an un-mapped swimming pool. One day for sure but 2015? No chance.

I picture a whole fleet of drones going over our cities, carpet-bombing the country with 'we called but you were out' slips.

Won't happen in this country for a while, certainly - I seem to remember that there's a specific clause in all of the UAV regulations here in the UK that prohibits UAVs from releasing any carried payload during flight.

Including, if I remember correctly, small animals with or without parachutes.

Aye, I was thinking it's just another thing to get blown into the windows alongside the gulls.

Heh. Something else for me to add to the emerging risk register at work.

Vacuum tube network would be much more efficient. And safer.

I'd like to see delivery via the sewage system. Up through the toilet.

The NSA will love this idea. Get Amazon to take lots of nice pictures for them.

How much will the drones cost? I'd just wait for it to deliver my £5 book and then disable it and sell it on eBay.

Lot's of people giving reasons why this wouldn't work or shouldn't be done.

I have a counter suggestion as to why it should be. BECAUSE AWESOME.

It would be even better if Amazon moved into selling paper bags of dogshit that were on fire.

They sell 'Fifty Shades of Grey' in paperback, which is close enough.

Can't see it catching on in a big way (perhaps not even a small way) - far too many potential problems (weather, theft, danger to life/property if the thing gets out of control, privacy issues (the thing will have at least one camera), noise ....... and that's just a few off the top of my head).

Seems more like a publicity stunt for Amazon Prime.

And conveniently detracts attention from a lot of the (justified) bad press they've been getting too.

I had to take that to Twitter.

Best PR retort since KitKat.
