So as to not pollute the picture thread any further I've made this 'un.

I spent a couple of hours this afternoon trying to edit things together. It's like trying to do some sort of crazy-ass jigsaw puzzle (and this is with a tiny handful of clips) and I'm pretty horrible at it. Here's literally my second attempt at an edited video, mostly just stuff I shot with my quadcopter. I've noticed loads of things wrong but I'm leaving it as is:

Excellent. I really enjoyed that. What range does your flying machine have in terms of distance away from you before loses signal?

I liked that a lot. It's impressive what shots you can get with that thing.

Is that your area then? Scenic!

Thanks for that. Great footage and nice backing track.

That was cool! Music went really well with it too. I'm amazed that one can easily buy one's own UAV now. What's the range on it, how far can you let it go before worrying?

Anyway, splendid stuff. I don't know if it's easy to fly or if you'd had bags of practice though!

Thanks, man. Yeah, it's all round here. Scenic's probably not the first word that would spring to mind if you were driving through the town, though.

It'll go perhaps a kilometre but the video tends to start breaking up pretty gradually so you know when to turn round. It's easy to make ones that can go further but with a multirotor there's not a lot of point since the battery limits the flight time anyway.

They're pretty easy to fly once they're all set up right, especially through video goggles like I am doing with that. If you fly by actually looking at the thing then it's harder, pretty easy to get disorientated when it gets further away.

Excellent stuff. Nice having the interspersed waves/splashes between the flight footage. Think if you had a few more 'detail' clips like those it would really look slick. Cracking picture quality.

I like the way you answered Pete's version of the same question I asked earlier.

Possibly the flu is making me unnecessarily grumpy.

Pretty damn slick!

What sort of video do you get back to your goggles while in flight - regular analogue PAL or something fancier?

Yeah just analogue PAL. Not very high definition, about 400 lines or so I think but it's enough to see pretty well.

Another edit. From up in the Lakes at the weekend:

https://vimeo.com/57023260

Not that thrilled with most of the footage, it was pretty windy most of the time and I was too busy fighting with that to worry too much about what I was actually shooting.

I've been taking advantage of the incredible alignment of time off work and nice weather to get out and about with the quadcopter (and my stills camera but I've not sorted through those yet). I threw together a quick edit last night of some bits from round here and up in the Lakes:

Better in HD.

Someone just told me that this is blocked on any mobile devices. I've put in on Vimeo as well:

You seem to be much improved at flying it nowadays. Is that your dog that chases it near the end?

Yep, it just comes up with the message, "The content owner has not made this video available on mobiles".

No, sadly. Also they can look up!

Yeah, by content owner it means the record label whose track I used. I might just stick to using vimeo as videos on there seem to be unaffected by this sort of thing for some reason.
