Ed Miliband is getting some shit this morning from the Mail for saying £70-£80 a week is enough to feed a family of 4.

Got me thinking about my family of 2 and a bit!

We spend £40-£60 a week at Tesco via home delivery. There is never any meat or fish and I will include stuff like nappies and shower gel when needed.

On average I then spend £400 every 3 or so months on fish and meat, online and from a local butcher.

Then I always find myself doing a shop for extra crap at least once a week for £10-£20 a week

So I reckon an average of £100 a week for 2 adults and a baby.

We do eat well though, not decadent but good quality food.

That's probably about the same as me. One big weekly shop which is topped up with mini shops during the week.

That's 2 adults and 2 children although the youngest is still being breast fed at the moment.

We generally just pop to the shop as and when we need something, Tesco is only 5 minutes away, so we don't really do a weekly shop.
It always seems to cost £30ish whenever I go in though, and that is every couple of days.

I'm sure we could reduce costs massively by planning ahead and doing weekly shops etc... but fuck it :D

We spend about £100 a week for three of us.

http://resourcefulcook.com/ is good if you want to spend less - it sets up meal plans that mean you don't waste any ingredients.

They can do seven nights worth of dinner for two for £19 :S

I've been tracking my/our expenses for a few years now, so I know that our grocery spend has varied between as low as £175 up to £385 for a calendar month.

No idea right now as I'm not doing a weekly shop. Used to be around £80-100 I think.

I think I generally spend £40-£50 on food and essentials per week, plus another £10-£15 on beer.

Since I got paid on April 25th, I've spent £101 on food shopping but I'm going to have to spend around £20-30 tonight on essentials as we've run out. I tend to only buy washing powder, toilet paper, cleaning products, shampoo/conditioner when they're on offer so occasionally, I'd spend £150 in one week just stocking up. And then there's probably a monthly to six-weekly visit to Boots but cosmetics don't count, right...?

Frankly, I have no idea.

Which makes me spend less.

Not weekly, but every time we go to Sainsbury's it comes to 150 quid. Normally within a few pence. Which is weird as we always buy different stuff.

Also do a £200 spend maybe twice a year at Cost Co

Its taken me years to stop coming back with stuff I don't need, but I have cracked it now.

I get bog and kitchen roll, tinfoil (as its much better that anything you can buy elsewhere) and other kitchen type stuff.

We moved to home delivery as my wife said it would stop me coming home with offers, for example I bought 8 legs of lamb last time Tesco had them on offer as there were half price and I have a big freezer!!

Well, each time I go it costs £200, for sure.

I reckon mine is about £60 a week for 2 people, (plus alcohol). With an occasional £150 shop every 2-3 months.

We spend about £80 for the three of us, plus the odd few bits from the corner shop or Aldi. That includes alcohol and soft drinks that definitely aren't essentials. There would be no problem sticking to that for four people if needed.

When I was self-employed and had the time to plan + shop, I could feed a family of 4 for £20 p/w + £14 veg box with a random big shop (£60~) every other month... so that works out at avg. £41 a week, give or take. But we use(d) reusable nappies, I can make a chicken into 5 meals, an aldi mince pack into 4 meals and so on.

Now I'm out working full time I'm getting more delivered, not cooking as much and although there's only the 3 of us probably spending £60 p/w
