Warner Bros. has excitedly announced a "mature", action-RPG take on The Lord of the Rings for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Subtitled War in the North and due next year, this instalment pursues new storylines and ventures to unseen lands in the company of less familiar characters - although the more well-trodden areas of Middle-Earth are not forgotten.

There will be online co-op for up-to three people, and it seems as though characters will be created from scratch to write their own place in Tolkien's world.

Well that's me spoffing. I take it EA have lost the rights to the gaming world after the excremental Conquest.

Didn't EA only have the rights to adapt the books and not the films? Warner would have the rights to the films, of course.

Sounds like a good use of the licence, dunnit?

I say Dimrill, aren't you concerned that perhaps this thread might attract trolls?

EA definitely had the rights to the films, as they used any flimsy excuse they could to throw masses of film clips into most of them. Sierra or somebody had the rights to the books, well whoever it was that made that godawful hobbit game and a few other things.

Currently on offer at Amazon for $9.99 you get this / Batman Arkham asylum GOTY and Mortal Kombat Collection so around £6 odds for all 3 (and you get steam codes for each game)

Is it? I randomly decided last week I quite fancy picking this up for a dabble, LOTR is too epic for me to really feel comfortable with a Lego parody, ring bearing being the serious business that it is, but I haven't got round to acting on that yet because Assassin's Creed 3.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A6CS1LW?&tag=rnwff-20

Its one of those packs where you need to add an American address to your address book (you dont need to actually have anything to do with that address it just needs to be there - i picked the US address for the company where i work but i've read of people using just about any address (pick your favorite company and use theirs)

When you buy it you get a page with all the digital content you have bought and can either download it directly from them or get a steam key to add it to your steam account

No, it's quite alright. Irritatingly removed from Tolkien's canon and written with all the subtlety of brick, though. Decent hack and slash. I haven't completed it yet as it got incredibly samey and boring after assaulting Mount Gundabad and you were transported to a hithero unknown dwarf fortress in Ered Mithrin (grr).

Cheev hunters beware, it requires at least three playthroughs to get everything. Another thing that put me off.
