Hello I am helping someone set up a Plex server at a hotel, and running into some issues.

They are using a Cloudtrax mesh network, and want to have one SSID configured to either only have local traffic with no internet connectivity, or extremely limited internet bandwidth. The hotel has pretty limited internet bandwidth coming in due to it's remote location, and the idea is to have a local media server people can use instead of Netflix/youtube/etc. They have a seperate SSID for internet browsing which is configured to limit bandwidth to 1mbps per device.

Cloudtrax has an option to throttle bandwidth, but when we enable that, in addition to throttling internet connectivity, it appears to do the same for local network traffic. Movie playback becomes choppy, and navigating the library is slow.

I'm not really a network specialist, and am a little over my head, but I owe the owner of the hotel a favour, and I'm the closest thing to a computer guy he has access to.

I've google for suggestions but haven't got anywhere so far.

I've not used that before, but reading the documentation it doesn't appear to distinguish between LAN and WAN traffic when it comes to throttling client bandwidth. You'd need to create one SSID with no limits but no internet access for media playback, and then another for internet access with a per-user cap. Not ideal, but I think that might be your easiest option.

I thought that might be the case. I can't seem to figure a way to actually do that though.

It's to cover a reasonably large area, which is why he's using a mesh network with about twenty access points.
