Brilliant game. Really enjoying it and I don't usually like These Sort Of Things. I may have to buy it when I have to give this copy back to my nephew.

You've stolen a game off your poor little nephew? Have you played multiplayer yet? The single player is pretty standard-fare, but the multiplayer is excellent to the MAX.

bit harsh to says the single player is standard, it has moments of brilliance amongst its average levels and that makes it better than most FPS's, Ill play tonight though if anyones up for it, I havent played for ages.

I agree. Thought this was going to be chank or average. It's short but very sweet to play! Played through the entire game in probably 6 hours in standard now taking me around 10000 hours to complete it in veteran.

I'm pretty rubbish at multiplayer though as I keep thinking I can do it Halo style! I can not!

Not stolen, no. He's at his Mam's (his parents separated) this week of the Easter hols, so he's lent it me. I have to loan him Crackdown to make up for it. Me and The Pundmeister played a good hour or two last night in multi. Very fun.

Agreed, COD 4 is rather splendid, unfortunately I got so annoyed with constantly getting killed on the last section of the sniper mission that I abandoned the game to restart in “Big Girls Blouse” difficulty. I then decided to play Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 (Liverpool 1 Everton 0) so I could shoot even more swarthy men in the head. Oh and I’m rubbish at the multi player.

I will be getting this at some point, but not for a while. I still have far too many games to play at the moment.

Cripes yes that sniper mission is rock on normal difficulty. Not looking forward to the veteren version.

I found hiding behind the tree by the ferris wheel works well. Plus don't forget to shoot the soldiers as they descend from the helicopters on the ropes. They're sitting ducks then.

I had massive problems with the bit immediately after The Shot, when a hundred billion Genericistani troops descend on you. Then it suddenly clicked that years of ingrained FPS instincts were leading me astray - I wasn't meant to stand and shoot it out like a Hollywood action hero, I was meant to run like someone who wanted to live to fight another day.

Groovy.

Imagine playnig it through, from the start, for the first time on Veteran? There are some bits you get stuck on for hours. Thankfully I did it as part of a team effort. I think we had a sticky point in the tv centre aswell. That only took an hour, which is nothing compared to some of the later points. That bloody chernoybl mission took hour and hours. The one right at the end, in the silos: TOOK FUCKING FOREVER. I must have heard "They've shtarted a blahddy caaaaaantdown" a thousand and one fucking times. Drove us insane. By the end of it you know exactly where the enemies will come from and you're doing it like a robot, shooting before they've even appeared, sprinting to cut off the unlimited spawns and move Pricey up, etc. Fun, but a pain in the crotch.

Also: I don't think we ever managed to do the stupid Mile High Club either ;(

I think CoD4 killed me more than any other game I've ever played. There were so many bits which are absolutely brutal, so many bits in which my average life expectancy was about 30 seconds - the shootout in the TV station. The first on-foot part of the helicopter mission. That sodding nuclear bunker. Anything with dogs in it. Yet no matter how much it hurt me, I kept crawling back for more.

Normally I have to pay a lot more than 40 quid for that kind of treatment.

Mentals. Play it on Regular and it plays out like a movie. Great fun.

Then forget the single player forever and enjoy it online.

I played it on Veteran from the start, the very first time I played it. I got 2/3rds of the way through and switched to hardened. Because it was just fucking infuriating. That's probably why I didn't think much of the singleplayer campaign. It wasn't difficult in a good way, it was just annoying.

Played through on normal to start with and it was difficult, but rewarding. Then played through (most of it) on the hardest level and it is both rock solid and absolutely fantastic. The buzz I felt on FINALLY getting through the TV station was incredible.

The multiplayer is indeed awesome. I had a good little game yesterday with Pundabaya, Dimrill and itsallwater.

Wait for the Game of the Year edition. Comes out this week I think? Ships with the new map-pack which is available to download this week.

I think.

The TV station on veteran just made me want to sob. It took me all fucking day. I didn't feel accomplishment, I just felt resentment towards Call of Duty 4 and everyone who had anything to do with making it.

The multiplayer has made up for it, however.

The TV station was piss easy compared to the nuclear bunker, the plane mission and many other bits I've blotted out of my mind. You just run right, hide in the cupboard for a bit, advance forward and hide on the right in the curvery alleyway bit, then wait and eventually your fat american team mates progress towards you. The infinite spawnis stopped by you being in that alleyway. Jobsagooden

Are you doing what I said? Sprint to the cloest. Avoid the FOUR HUNDRED GRENADES that get throw at the door, wait for a minute, go out the door and sprint right along the wall, under the balcony, turn right down the big curvery bit. Wait there for a miunte, then slowly inch out and help your team pop off the survivors.

It's more fun to be a badass and go via the rooms on the left.

And by fun, I mean difficult. And by badass, I mean dead mann walking.

On veteran? Eesh. It's mega hard. Getting into the rooms is easy. Coming out the other side is a massive pain. Not only are you expose through a door and a window, but people from above have a slight angle on you AND you get shot from round the back as your crappy team mates don't cover the door properly. BAHBAHBAH

I think the time that I finally got through I had made it past the rooms and was near the following room when I was taking so much fire I barely made it back to the rooms. Then I backtracked and made a very, very slow crawl up the middle of the room and somehow made it to the other side.

The knowledge that the self same TV station is going to be in the new map pack fills me with both joy and despair in equal measures.

:)

TV Studio cleared. By hanging back in the computer room and sniping around the corner like a big ponce. Took 4 more attempts to do it though.

Owing to a rather excellent price mislabelling messup (CoD4 for CoD2 price, thanks) I am now the proud owner of CoD4. It had better be as good as you say.

(Also: F1 CE for the PS3, as I like my F1 me)

Sadly, that was the only one. (I probably would've bought more at that price, given how expensive it usually is)

And when I say only one, I mean that. In about 5 shops I looked in.

It made me insanely angry on Veteran difficulty, so I gave up. At that time I had not become decent at the online version, so I might now be significantly better.

I've got as far as the last room, just before the VIP headshotty bit, but either die or run out of time. It's... so unfair.
