Is there a cheap but reliable way to play music from an iPod through a car stereo with no audio in connection?

itrip. But won't work in London, although doubt that's an overriding issue.

As mentioned. iTrip or the like, not very reliable if you travel about a bit and dependant on your car radio reception etc... But if it works, then it works.

You could replace the stereo with one with an aux in socket on the front for about 50 quid.

What car and stereo is it? You can probably get a box to fit in the back which would replace the cd changer input for around 20 quid.

Tape deck input? You can get a cassette with a cable connector coming out of it, to plug into the iPod headphone socket, about a fiver.

Yes, it's mostly for travelling around the country on longer trips, and that includes to London. There isn't a tape deck input either.

The stereo make could be anything and the car is a silver one.

I've had a quick search, but I can't find anything for that make and model, sorry ;)

Is there definitely no aux input? If it’s anywhere in his Focus, it’ll be in the glove compartment, because Ford are fucking stupid.

If not, iTrip or changing the unit, I guess.

I'll have a look tomorrow. Haven't seen one. iTrip doesn't sound likely if you can't use it around the London area and travel around a lot, though. The radio is fine for short journeys, but more than 30 minutes of Steve Wright makes me want to grab the steering wheel and drive us into the oncoming traffic.

I am so glad my car has an iPhone cable. I listen to so many books while driving.

I have bought several of these things... the kind that transmit on a certain FM frequency.

The Belkin one was badly made... the buttons were poorly assembled, pushed themselves, beeped constantly, and it was just cack.

The Pama one (bought in motorway services) is badly made... it can't hold itself upright very well, and the slightest interruption of power causes it to switch itself off (which is quiet frequent given it's jostling around in the cigarette lighter). This wouldn't be so bad except you need to push the power button to off and then back on before it'll start working again.

Both of these were cradle-style things that would hold the phone upright, presumably to facilitate handsfree calling and/or use as a navigation system.

My advice, if you really want one, is the cabled kind without a cradle. Much less change of it wobbling around with the movement of the car.

If you can wait a couple of weeks I'll have a hunt around for mine - I haven't used it in years. It worked okay in London (you had to hunt for some dead air but it didn't take long).

I got myself a Pure Highway DAB thingy...mainly for DAB but it works fine with my MP 3 player and an audio lead. Had it for a couple of years and not had a problem with it (which has surely put the kibosh on it).

We'll call it a swap for a balaclava.

Sort of connected. I wanted to listen to the cricket on the way back from hertfordshire on saturday, but it wasn't on analogue radio. So, used tune-in radio app to stream TestMatchSofa and bluetoothed it to my car stereo. Extremely impressed that with only 30 seconds start up time, on a journey through some quite rural areas, I only suffered 2 minutes of buffering on the whole journey from there to home (1.5 hours). Also, usage stats only showed 27Mb received data. I'm now more interested in a Spotify premium subscription (as the car is the only place I'd really use it initially)

You've got a Tivo box - you should get a free premium subscription with that (it's worth about 3 months, or something).
