Hi,

Is it possible for me to do the following:

Set up an out of office reply that forward the message to a colleague, but only in the instances where they are not already CCd into the email recipients - so emails that are direct to me?

Does that make sense?

Because my suggestion that this might be a good way of doing things seems to be a revolutionary idea, here.

You can tell it to only forward messages where nobody is CCd but not a specific person I don't think. But would it really matter if they got a couple of messages twice?

Yep. Rules and Alerts, Advanced.

Sent only to me
Forward to people or public group

Finish.

File tab > look in the boxes on the 'main' bit of the page.

Oh, there it is, behind the big "automatic replies (out of office)" button.

That's what I thought, but didn't want to just experiment. I'll leave an out of hours in, anyway, but that will be handy to forward it to the group. Cheers, lil' ears.

But that's not going to forward any messages where the CC field is empty. I thought Mimi wanted to exclude just those messages where the person that they were getting forwarded to was already CCd in.

Are you sure that will forward the email to them if they're not CC'd, but someone else is?

There's a page on the next screen for 'unless this condition' rules as well that might help though.

I suspect it's only going to forward messages where the CC field is empty.

You can create rules through the out of office page, but not that complicated. Apparently.

It has two check boxes - "sent directly to me" and "cc'd to me" - in addition to From/To boxes.

Shall set up mesage to say 'I am not here, please email ___________', which is the way it is done already.

I was going to suggest that. It would probably help to weed out the emails that your colleague doesn't need too.

Say you'll respond to any emails upon your return, however contact so-and-so if it is urgent.

All emails I get are urgent response, so need dealing with in an hour or two, which is why I wanted the forwarding, but it's been done this way since forever, so I shan't worry about it too much, but I may ask someone to look intot he possibility a little further in the near future.

I'm in a team of four, so it's be nice to say 'any direct emails please forward to this team in my absence' to know that someone will pick it up.

Any direct emails is the same as 'sent only to you' surely? That's what I suggested in my first post.

It certainly does the job, but I would't go as far as to say it rules.

Yep. One can't be expected to deal with stuff when one isn't in.* Then again, I didn't even set an out of office. Heh. Still, everyone who would email me is off for the bank holiday anyway.

* Unless you're one of these mega-pay, on-call, 'I have a work HTC' people.
