YouTube - so cold it keeps freezing ..........

For the past month or so I've been having problems with YouTube randomly feezing. This sometimes happens at multiple points in a video.

This happens in Firefox, IE and Chrome.

I know that the most recent versions of Flash have problems (and my problems started when 11.3 was released) so I've fully removed Flash and installed 10.2, but no luck - the random lockups keep occurring.

What happens is that the playback stops, irrespective of whether the buffer is full or not. The 'circle of circles' icon appears in the middle (indicating it's loading data) but nothing happens. I can get past the 'stuck' part by clicking a few seconds ahead or refreshing/reloading the video (yet clicking a few seconds behind the stuck part means that it then re-sticks on the same spot).

So, what's the cause likely to be? Nothing on my PC has changed (to my knowledge).

Video card is an AMD 6850, my virus checker is NOD32.

My Internet connection is good and stable. It's NOT dropping out, as when the video freezes everything else still works in my browser, etc.

Any ideas please?

Maybe DNS related? Try switching to Google DNS?

But if it was DNS related, wouldn't I have problems with my connection?

No not at all! It's entirely possible that just one or a few sites aren't updating properly. Some ISPs are terrible for it. BE has issues with YouTube quite often, coincidentally (my ISP), among other sites. So I've always used Google's DNS since I moved here.

I was kinda hoping someone smarter than me would explain DNS for us! Maybe after the closing ceremony...

What AV are you running? Try playing a videa with it disabled.

If it makes you feel any better: My work PC's install of Firefox 14 instantly crashes if I try and use flash with it, and I couldn't figure out how to install an older version of flash, so I've just had to disable it completely :'(
