I've been on a little google hunt today, to try and find out when my cabinet is going to be upgraded to have fibre available. Not my exchange, my actual cabinet in my street.

Turns out you can find pretty much anything on the internet these days!

http://fttc-check.alc.im/

A lovely little website that will tell you which cabinet you are connected to and when it is due to be upgraded (BT are currently doing phase 8 of upgrades at the moment). Unfortunately, my cabinet is not currently in any phase :(

Thought someone other than me might find this useful :) (plus if I put it on here I have a chance of finding the site again in a month or so when I want to check again :D)

Does this mean that mine is already done, or it's going to get 15 times faster?

Phase 9a which means Sept 12. I'm currently meant to get 'up to 16Mb' but realistically is about 6 or 7. Uplift is 5.35 so I can get about 35Mb once done, allegedly. That doesn't seem very fast.

That site's useless, I put my Glasgow postcode in and it returned data for a Bracknell exchange. SamKnows says my actual exchange already has FTTC in some areas (whatever that means?) so it's not like Scotland's some kind of ghetto in that regard either.

FTTC = Fibre To The Cabinet.

That site doesn't think I exist which is a shame. Bt have done the exchange but keep pushing back my cabinet date.

It's only as good as the data the dude can get, plus, you know, scotland.

They just enabled it for my address recently. Estimate speed of 75mbps. Gosh.

Well worth getting Infinity. I waited for around 10 months until I moved over.

Had 40\10 for around 5 weeks then took the upgrade to 80\20

After 4 weeks of the 80\20 I get speeds of 69\16

Its always rock solid and no problem with Newsgroups

I know what the acronym means, I'm just not sure what it means to be available in some areas? How do I find out if I can get it and what speeds it would mean for me? Not that I fancy BT as an ISP anyway as I don't trust them with BitTorrent traffic mind.

If it already setup, then you should be able to put your phone number into the BT infinity site and it will tell you.

If it isn't setup at the moment, the only way it to use the site I linked, which doesn't work for you :(

Nope, no fibre for me! Ah well, I 'registered my interest' so presumably they'll let me know if they ever roll it out to my cabinet.
