I would like one of these I think. I don't really know why exactly, but I don't have a watch at the moment.
I'm sure there are others like this out there, but none with 7 days battery life, which would be the deal breaker for me.

I'm sure we mentioned this in the kickstarter thread, didn't we? Due in September.

I've got one coming (whenever it is they actually make one).

Wow, it only has 7 days battery life?

I'd imagine it won't even have that in the real world. It's doing a lot of work.

It much rather it used captivate charging than a cord, but I guess that's too expensive.

USB rechargeable, so it'll just be another thing that gets plugged in every night for me. But I would like it to last a weekend, or week away.

I have to say I think they look horrible. I'm usually one for gadgets like these, but in this case I think I'd just want a normal-looking watch.

Bah, annoyance.

In other news, I have an inductive charging pack for my Magic Mouse, which works great and wasn't too expensive (really fucks up OSX's ability to work out how much charge is left though). I assume that was what you meant by captive charging?

Love the idea. With a name like Pebble I would have liked it to be a bit less fugly. And proprietary USB connections are unacceptable, always.

I actually quite like the "functional" look, especially in black.

Non-kickstarter preorders are currently planned for delivery in Q1 2013 though, which is no good.

It seems sort of alright but also sufficiently non-essential that after the initial novelty wears off you'd forget to keep charging it up, then you'd obviously stop wearing it before eventually consigning it to a drawer.

Whilst it looks interesting, entry point is v2.0 for me. I also wouldn't be overly surprised to see Apple dry hump with their own crippled implementation if this shows promise at an early adopter level. They already started promoting the iPad nano as a watch last year.

Why have they used e-ink & then covered it with a shiny screen? :belm:

Yes, but the benefit of space ink is that it's readable...

It'll still be readable, it just won't be as nice to read as a Kindle. But unless you plan to read a book on your watch, I doubt it'll be that bad.

Surely it'll no be any more readable than a normal screen though & it'll have the same shitey unreadableness in direct light.

I'd no use one anyway*, but that seems daft to me.
*The times it could be useful are the times when I actively ignore my phone so it'd be pointless.

I might be wrong here, but I can't see any reason it won't be readable in direct light (unless you're actually reflecting the sun into your eyes). It doesn't reply on a light source for you to see it (like an LED does).

I agree, if you put paper behind glass then it's still perfectly readable in daylight.

Yes, look at how awesome a watch that runs for 7 whole days before needing a charge, relies on the technology of a linked smart phone to do anything different and looks like a Deal Extreme £2 special.

Is it waterproof?

Surely I'm no the only person that has to stick their phone/watch into a shadow to stop reflections & make it readable.

Heh, I wear the cheapest Casio watch available. Great for day to day wear.

Image

Not worn a posh watch to work since a colleage broke one of mine with a wine gum playing 'cricket' with a ruler.

Tempted to get something 'unique' from Deal extreme now I've seen Markg's watch of the people.

I stopped wearing watches as I was always catching them on something and scratching the face or breaking the strap. Probably a good job really as I've owned some daft watches such as

- At school I had a Star Wars watch that played the theme tune for 50 seconds - I'd either trigger it accidentally or forget I'd set an alarm and it would go off during a class.
- An MP3 player watch with such an awkward strap, I had to use one hand and a screwdriver to get it off my wrist.
- One with a flip-open metal lid. Nice watch but inevitably broke it.
