I'm looking forward to this, Disney have a pretty good job with the Marvel films overall, although some of the sequels are a bit poor (2nd Thor Film)

Hopefully as Lucas is supposed to be providing input for this one at least this film will be OK

I did read some "leaks" of the plot that looked to be rubbish. Hopefully they are rubbish but I've set the info as spoiler just in case!

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
They are saying the film starts with a hand floating through space holding a light sabre, this is Lukes hand that was chopped off in the Empire Strikes Back, having defied the laws of physics the hand goes the last mile and lands on a desert planet where its found by 2 "young" characters

They then look to track Luke down to return the light sabre and come across Han Solo who hasn't seen Luke for 30 years.

There is also a super weapon being built on an Ice Planet, things have now moved on since the Death Star and this thing can knock out entire Solar Systems

Really hope this info is rubbish and the plot is better.

I can't imagine that's the plot of the film. It sounds more like internet fan fiction to me.

How would it have got out of the atmosphere of the Cloud City planet? Unless it's the same planet. If so then how would it have not decayed over 30 years?

If anyone says 'midichlorians', I'm slappin' a bitch

because then he would be troobacca?
Or because he is a wookie and they don't have external genitalia?
Because he isn't real and therefore it isn't an issue?

Donald Duck doesn't wear trousers, either. Which is doubly odd as he wears his sailor jacket.

I dobn't think the film will be great, as expectations will be far too high. I tink that having to shoehorn in the characters from the previous films will be detrimental. However, straying too far far away from them would hurt the franchise. Tricky one, decision this is.

Mind you, I've always thought that the 1977 film wasn't much good; it's more remembered affectionately as part of a childhood than any other merit.

It's not like there weren't any other films around at the time so it must have had something.

It will be bad for exactly the same reasons, and good for the same reasons.
Trying to crowbar in a cuddly toy character, making lots of new ships/characters for collectors to buy that don't fit the canon, etc will annoy people. However, the story will be fairly solid, the characters generally good, etc and it will have over done CGI of people wielding light based swords and deflecting laser beams all over the place, massive explosions and some use of the force. Probably a solid 7/10, but nothing fantastic due to the constraints of the genre/story.

I read that they have said they will not bring in anything from the Extended Starwars Universe so all the books, comics etc

On one hand there are some silly plots where they clone Darth Vader etc, but there might be some ok stuff that could refresh the current plots, so maybe they should find middle ground.

Would they be liable to pay people who came up with those ideas though?

Best they start again.

With Abrams in charge (and given the mess that he and his writers made of the Trek films) my hopes of it being any good are about zero. But I'm not a huge Star Wars fan - loved Empire and A New Hope is okay, but the rest are pretty awful (especially 1, 2 and 3).

I absolutely could not agree more, on all counts.

I thought the first one was okay, but the second was awful, especially on terms of storyline and where it leaves the franchise? Wrath of Khan to that?

No wonder he buggered off to do this. I predict he'll make a total arse of it, not that I'm a massive Star Wars fan (and the 'new' ones were all garbage anyway, so at least he's starting from a low base)

According to Wikipedia he has a Star Trek 3 and Mission Impossible 5 in the pipeline.

He has had some TV turkeys since Lost and Fringe but Revolution is doing OK although I'm behind on that

I always liked Alcatraz as well

Cancelled by original network but interest from others. Fairly sure the interest refers to Tracey spiridakos' tits however

Think we stopped watching it 8-9 episodes into S1, there was a long period of time before it started again.

Once it did we just never bothered although I have all of it on the NAS

It was the same with Heroes, we got into that, then I think it was affected by a writers strike and we never picked it up

There is just too much these days, 3 years ago there was next to nothing US TV wise in the summer, now its as busy as the fall schedule

I'm hopeful that he'll be able to do something decent with the Star Wars film, to be honest. Partly because I loved the Trek films. LOVED THEM. Fools.

I've also enjoyed most of the TV stuff he's had a hand in as well. Particularly Lost, Person of Interest and Fringe. And, yes, Revolution.

And you know what, it is absolutely literally impossible for him to make films that are not better than the prequels, so worst comes to worst we at least get films that are *waves hands vaguely* sort of OK. (Because the prequels weren't that bad, m'kay).

And it's STAR WARS, you soulless fuckwits.

I have to say I found the plot a little difficult to follow at times because I had to imagine that one of the main protagonists didn't exist.

Y'see, my brain decided that Anakin was supposed to be a massive dick, and that you aren't supposed to like him at all. What's more, you're supposed to think his relationship with Padme is fucking stupid and childish, with his subsequent rage just a murderous temper tantrum.

As such, it becomes a much more enjoyable experience, because he's supposed to be wooden, annoying and unconvincing.

Disney announced a spin off film called Rouge One for December 2016 as well as episode 8 coming December 2017

So looks like full milking has begun and we will be getting a dose of Star Wars once a year for at least the next 3 years, which is fine as long as its not shit
