First up, thanks to Pete for the title! I read his post in the New Year Objectives thread and thought "Maybe my very own thread? How incredibly arrogant is that?" And then I thought "Fuck it, let's do it!"
So, in an effort to continue my exploration of Northwestern Ontario (hint: it's fucking BIG!) I've decided to abandon, at least partially, the photo thread and stick my stuff here. This is purely in an effort to ensure that I don't abandon the whole photography and exploration thing that I've been doing since the middle of last year. I've gotten lazy over the past couple of months because of the crappy weather, and I'm just the sort of miserably idle bastard who'll slowly let things get away from him over time and end up camped in front of the Xbox when I should be out pointing the magic soul-stealing box at things and shouting "click!" in an elaborate manner.
Hopefully then, this thread will give me some kind of inspiration to keep going with the exploring and picture taking. I'm setting myself the challenge of at least one entirely new place per fortnight (on average anyway - regardless of how much I enjoy this shite, I'm not going anywhere if it's minus thirty, and it will probably be exactly that for most of January at least.) Photos of new places and new experiences go here - photos of old places, bugs in my garden and other stuff will continue to go into the regular photo thread.
I may ramble on like a loon. I will probably make no sense at all for about 50% of the posts. Oh, and as soon as the bugs appear again, anyone with any kind of creepy-crawly phobia will want to stay away permanently. I got extension tubes for Christmas, you see. You can practically see up their fucking
arses with them.
So today my wife, son and I toddled off to a place called
Mission Island. It's actually not far from the centre of Thunder Bay, right on the shore of Lake Superior, but I've never been there before. It was rather ace - tame deer (they come right up to your car - I petted two of them!) and some beautiful scenery, helped by absolutely cracking light conditions. Here are five of the best that I took today (bigger pictures, as ever, on Flickr.)
