Is anyone else having issues.

Since the upgrade I have not been able to connect to xbox (it disconnects me)live.

In network settings it connects when doing a test, but not when I am in a game.

I have applied port forwarding but alas no fix.

Help me beex you are my only hope.

Stick your 360 in the DMZ in your router and try again.

You don't need to create it, it should already be there. What's the model of your router?

You can add anything that's on your home network, but I wouldn't recommend it. ;)

Set your Xbox(es) up with static IPs in the dashboard settings.

Then log into your router:
The WAN Setup screen lets you configure a default DMZ server.
To assign a computer or server to be a default DMZ server:
In the last Default DMZ Server field, type the last digit of the IP address for that computer. To remove the default DMZ server, enter 0 (zero).
Select the Default DMZ Server check box, and click Apply.

Very weird. I have it every now and again where the connection drops out, but when you test the settings it's fine. It's usually an intermittent thing though.

So is it intermittently or constantly not connecting in a game?

Is it possibly missing a patch ? (when you launch a game the first thing it does is check to see if its on the correct patch level and if not it should offer to download the patch but will kick you out of XBL if it detects your on an older version).

Obtuse design and cryptic terminology is a barrier whatever your trade. How often is the DMZ called the DMZ on a router's control panel?

Moderate NAT means your port forwarding isn't right or the box isn't in the DMZ. If you've got two boxes, port forwarding won't work, you'll need them both in the DMZ.

Yeah, if your Xboxes are in the DMZ then NAT will be open, for obvious reasons. It's not called the Demilitarised Zone for nothing.

Untrue. Both my Xboxes work fine without needing DMZ setting [1]. I once had three Xboxes at once on my network, and the third dropped to the "strict NAT" setting. It depends on your router.

And the weak "DMZ host" type feature offered by home routers is a single node thing anyway. You can't put more than one thing in it, by definition of how it works.

[1] At least, they did with the Airport Extreme in place. I'm currently using my O2 router so that might not be the case right now.

In practice it means COD won't work but you can still play AC.

Define 'work fine'.

For Open NAT, XBox live needs the ability to make inbound connections. There are only two ways to do that - port forwarding rules or putting them in the DMZ. Port forwarding rules only allow you to define a single host, and so do most DMZ features, as you said.

I'm not really sure what the strategy would be for two devices, frankly.

Could you use a second router as a bridge?

Or get a better router, I guess.

Sure it does. You'd need two externally facing IPs though.

Well not many. Like I said, I'm not sure how to get open NAT for two devices. Putting them both in a DMZ with two public IP addresses would work, though.

Nope. Because it's your internet facing router that's doing your address translation, regardless of any other routers you might have hanging off the back of it.

To be honest, moderate NAT isn't a problem for most things. It just means you'll, for example, never get chosen as host for most multiplayer games etc. And games with really shitty lobby code (like Forza 4 for example) might not let you join a game.

What's your current setup? Do you have port forwarding rules in place, is either 360 in the DMZ?

The other reason for one working properly and one not, is UPnP. The 360 will communicate with the Router and negotiate its own set of port forwarding rules for the services it wants to use, dynamically. This often doesn't work, hence why the first troubleshooting step for 360 issues is to set the port forwarding manually.

Look at it this way - Xbox Live sends data to your 360 on a specific port. When that data hits your router, the router has to work out where to send it. If you've got a single 360 with functioning UPnP or port forwarding rules, that's easy - it sends it to your 360. If you've got two 360s both online at the same time, how on earth would your router know where to send the data?

What happens when you have two 360s is that UPnP will set up port forwarding rules dynamically to one of them, so it gets what Live calls 'open NAT'. The other 360 is basically at a point where it can communicate with XBox Live using outbound connectivity, but can't receive any inbound initiated connections. As a result it gets defined as either 'moderate NAT' or 'strict NAT'.

If the 360 (and your router) correctly handles releasing UPnP commitments and a DHCP lease, yes. Not sure whether it does or not.

I am not sure it ever worked, when We played Black ops months ago, I only had one xbox and I was still moderate NAT.
