He was such the Irish author most of his books were written in Switzerland.

'Dubliners' is still ace though, if you skip the first short story.

Portrait of an Artist is my favourite. Ulysses, not so much. Couldn't get far into Dubliners without getting bored. Maybe it was that short story?

That doesn't particularly matter though, does it? I'm English, not British. Well, in my opinion... How did Joyce identify himself? Surely that's the most important question.

Also, the British/English thing is somewhat irrelevant since the poll choices don't include "British". Dublin may have been in Britain but has never been in England, so English cannot possibly be the correct answer. Assuming of course he was born in Dublin and there are no other as-yet-unmentioned factors that are relevant, that is.

I threw Ulysses across the room after the 5th chapter or so. I couldn't even tell which character was speaking. The chore:enjoyment ratio was already far too high. Am I a thicky or something?
