i felt bad, so i bought an iPad 2.. ( i know, bad reason, but i would have bought one sooner or later)

currently putting books on it, and being amazed byflipboard, but tell me some stuff

(and craig, is the tap! magazine app you're so happy about the one you buy from the standard shop or is the another one as well?

Star Walk - hold up your iPad to the sky and it'll show you all the stars, planets, deep sky objects and even satellites which are there.

Real racing HD 2 - fair decent racing game that also shows off the graphics pretty well

The app version is this one. It's essentially all the magazine's content along with videos of games, audio of contributors, 3D views of some kit, all for 60% of the UK price of the newsstand edition. There's also a PDF version through Zinio if you're some kind of iPad masochist.

I want an ipad, but I don't want one at the moment, if in 3-5 months time a new one is coming out.

Is it expected that ipad 3 will come out in March (which nicely coincides with my birthday) or will they extend it like they did with the iphone or just do a price drop (like they sort of did with the ipod)?

It's hard to say, but I'd guess that no new hardware will come out for a while. The 2 followed on fast from the 1 because there were obvious things missing from the original, like a camera and a sensible way to cover the screen.
There isn't (to my knowledge) much call for anything new to be added at the moment.

Wasn't it 12 months later, which is a pretty standard apple release cycle?
I'd expect a new model in about 5 months time with a higher resolution screen and a better camera, but a similar CPU to the 2.

There'll be a new iPad in 2012 for sure, but when it arrives and what it'll include are up for debate. The high-res screen would be lovely, but will need some insane power to drive. From a pixels standpoint, you're talking about something where a 1:1 grab wouldn't even fit on Apple's top-of-the-line iMac. That's going to GULP battery power; also, any games supporting such a resolution are going to be fucking massive, and so 16/32/64 will start to look a tad restrictive from a storage standpoint.

As for Pinball, Pinball Dreams HD exists for iPad, but I wasn't that impressed. Personally, I'd start with the Gameprom stuff. Pinball HD is 69p and has some decent tables (not least The Deep), and War Pinball HD is also pretty good. I know Real Pinball HD - Vampire (69p) also fared well in Tap!, although I've barely played it myself, so I'm just going on what one of my team said. In fact, here are our three recent iPad pinball reviews:

We're also hoping to have a full pinball round-up in an upcoming issue, but I'm not sure quite when I'm going to run that just yet.

little point of criticism here for Tap!

you see two football games called the best, without mentioning each other.. and the fifa review tells you absolutely nothing....
(and it switches over to the seperate ipad version in the middle )

In all honesty, the website is the lowest priority for the team, and so it's updated slightly haphazardly. I'm not sure how the 'best new games' section is updated, but there are at least four titles that shouldn't be in there at the moment (Casey's & First Touch, through being too old, and Bird Strike *& Anooki, which shouldn't be on the site anyway). In terms of footie, I don't review those titles, but I understand from Andy that FIFA 12 is the one to go for these days.

When we took the iPad full of photos round to see family and friends they loved it. Piccies really do look great on the screen.

As for apps.... well, I like reading newspapers on it, and it's quite cool as a giant remote for XBMC media stuff. The star-chart things are fab too.

Er, it does most things so excellently that I'm struggling now to think of things to say about it, how odd.

I really like the smart cover.

RDP Lite, there is a free and a paid version like many apps

The RDP isn't that great on the free verion, but it has a Wake on LAN function as well

Great for powering on you PC, I've also moved my NAS into the attic as I can power it on with this tool then shut it down via the web interface.

Also BBC Iplayer, Dropbox, TV Catch up all free all good.

Skype is also good on the IPAD as well, as if Facetime

Why would you power a NAS off?

After getting a bit fed up with Photoshop Express I started looking for other photo editing apps that would handle RAW files and (unlike at least half of the App store photo offerings) aren't just a bunch of filters for making pictures of tricycles or some hipster dill-nuggets in a park look slightly like they were taken with an ancient toy film camera.

Anyway I found this one:

(although it does include some of those filters if you like that sort of thing)

does anybody know how to play a cup in fifa 12? it seems ort manager mode, or friendly...
