My father has a small digital camcorder that uses small memory cards. It seems to only have a usb (which you plug into a computer etc for charging)
is there a lead, or an easy way using the memory cards for him to be able to see the vids recorded on it on the TV?

Many modernish TVs will accept SD card input - do you know what he has for a TV, and what cards the camcorder uses?

It's a fairly modern CRT, from memory it's got scart, component and HDMI input, but no USB I believe.

Takes those standard small cards that you can put into an adapter to make one of those thumbnail ish sized cards that you use in digital cameras or a psp. Sorry for the poor descriptions!

And the camera is similar to this one:

It's designed to work with a computer, I think he'll be struggling to do much with it otherwise.

Shame we don't seem to have an Chinny any more.

That was my general conclusion, but where there's a will....I thought there was perhaps something that the card could go in to output to a tv ( other than a laptop)

Has chinny gone? I hope not, I like the amstrad trivia

I don't think the card's the right option. Card readers are generally just for accessing the storage, they don't have any software to play what's on there.

Will it output video over that USB lead? I think it's unlikely that it's just for charging. If it does, it might just be possible to get a USB to HDMI or something like that.

If we know the model of camcorder we can be more definite.

Hmm, I think it is the exact one in the amazon link I posted. I do have a computer he could have, but the poor old guy and girl would just like to view their vids of various wildlife on the TV.
In theory I suppose something like this should work:

No, that's the wrong way around - that would take HDMI input and output it over USB.

Something like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-USB-VGA-D ... 19c723c54c

But it's a gamble. I have a suspicion it won't work, because it's trying to output 'data' over that USB connection, not video.

Hmm, yeah, I may just set him up with my old desktop PC as they've got the room. He's always saying he'd like to learn to use the Internet although I doubt I'm the correct teacher...

Anyway, many thanks to you all. Tis much appreciated

Given this was Chinny's penultimate post, maybe he is taking a breather from the forum for a bit?
