Looks awesome (shame I'm at work and can't test it)

The Library of Congress presents the National Jukebox, which makes historical sound recordings available to the public free of charge. The Jukebox includes recordings from the extraordinary collections of the Library of Congress Packard Campus for Audio Visual Conservation and other contributing libraries and archives. Recordings in the Jukebox were issued on record labels now owned by Sony Music Entertainment, which has granted the Library of Congress a gratis license to stream acoustical recordings.

Hmm, why no NSFW warning? The site clearly says, 'WARNING: Historical recordings may contain offensive language.' :p

:D

Best avoid the 'ethnic characterizations' genre then:

Quote:
This heading is used for works that incorporate ethnic or regional groups as subject matter. Text and music may involve characters and/or musical elements that reflect attitudes, perspectives, and beliefs associated with ethnic and regional groups at the time the selections were written and performed. These characterizations may utilize outmoded and offensive stereotypes of nationalities, religions, or races.

Here's looking forward to the classic 1942 "We're going to slap that dirty Jap" song me and Dixon heard on the jukebox in a Cardiff pub, then.

Also, as someone who fuckin' adores Dust-to-Digital, Lomax, Harry Smith, Shirley Collins and all those other wonderful archivists who ran around making field recordings back in the day - :luv: , I love this news!
