When I started university a large and friendly girl on the same floor of the student block where I lived in halls said to me

'I like you, but I'm more Rock whilst you're a bit more Country*, if you know what I mean'.

I didn't. I still don't. Was she putting me down?

_____

I think she said 'country'. I hope I didn't mis-hear her :S

Oh yeah. I started a thread. I meant to ask - what did she mean, and have you ever been unsure whether you were being put down or given a compliment?

It sounds like she didn't like country, or at least found it less cool that rock.

Rock = angular, hard edges
Country = soft, round edges

That's all I've got, science-wise.

Was she trying to say that you're on completely different wavelengths, or something?

I've overthought comments before as well. Certain events like that stick in your head, because they prey on your own insecurities.

It's why a lot of people replay conversations in their head after the event.

Its a line from a song ?

Quote:
LITTLE BIT COUNTRY/LITTLE BIT ROCK AND ROLL

I'm a little bit country
And I'm a little bit rock 'n roll
I'm a little bit of Memphis and Nashville
With a Little bit of Motown in my soul
I don't know if it's good or bad
But I Know I Love It So
I'm a little bit country, I'm a little bit rock 'n roll
He's a little bit gentle, he's a little bit runnin' wild
She's a little bit a full-grown woman, she's a little bit of a child
Don't know if I'm happy or sad
My music makes me whole
I'm a little bit country
And I'm a little bit rock 'n roll
I like that peaceful easy feeling of a laid-back country song
And when I sing my rock 'n roll, I can sing it all night long
I love my country with all my heart and my soul
I go out on Saturday night for a little bit of rock 'n roll
I know I'm goin' to feel all right
No matter where I go
With a little bit of country
And a little bit of rock 'n roll
I love my country with all my heart and my soul
I go out on Saturday night for a little bit of rock 'n roll
I know I'm goin' to feel all right
No matter where I go
With a little bit of country
And a little bit of rock 'n roll
We're a little bit country
We're a little bit rock 'n roll

She may have said rock n' roll rather than rock. that bit doesn't stick so firmly in my memory.

I don't know if she thought we were on different wavelengths in a bad way. She was the only nice person on my floor, the others were very bitchy, but she was quite loud and outspoken whereas I wasn't, so we were quite different in that regard.

When I was poorly she'd insist on sleeping on my floor to make sure I did not want for anything when I wasn't feeling well (and consequently snored loudly all night so I didn't sleep and felt even worse!0 so I do not think she disliked me, but still it confuses me what she meant.

She meant that she thought that she was a bit more hard edged, out-there, crazy and you were a bit more home-spun, nice, yee-hahy

Let's check if she was right.

Now you are all growed up, do you have any of:

a) a faithful pickup truck
b) an addiction to whisky
c) a no-good man

And do you work two jobs, one of which is a waitress?

?
