When I boot I get messages saying that certain .dlls can't be found (because they were to do with viruses).

How do I stop windows wanting to find them?

(install linux perhaps...)

If your AV has deleted them because they were infected, then they're gone. Best suggestion is boot off the XP CD and attempt a repair.

The Dlls were only virus things. They don't affect windows at all. I want to stop windows looking for them.

OK. That's different. If there's something complaining that it can't find DLLs when it starts up, then there's an application launching at startup that wants these DLLs. Best thing to do is run msconfig.exe, then look through the tabs for things that you don't recognise that have been set to run on startup. Any of those could be something that's expecting to find these dlls.

One thing though - are you sure they're not real windows dlls? Got any file names?

Definitely not windows files as they don't even come up in a google search (one was wmsaui.dll and the other was something like ubxeibosli.dll). Got them now. Ta.
