I can't say I totally understand the world of business, but surely announcing a loss of £44.5 million is bad?

This is from the Shropshire Star yesterday evening.

Quote:
The market is braced for more bad news from computer and video games retailer Game when it reports interim results tomorrow. The company has already said like-for-like sales plummeted by 9.4 per cent in the 19 weeks to June 11. Newly appointed house broker Peel Hunt is forecasting interim losses will climb to £44.5 million, more than double last year’s £21.5 million, while other brokers suggest the interim dividend is set to be axed. Game’s problems reflect a tough backdrop for the sector as high inflation and muted wage growth stifles spending power. The industry also says that as it is near the end of a hardware cycle customers are holding off and waiting for the next range.

They have too many stores, I can see some closures following this announcement.

The merger with gamestation they need to consolidate under one name.

Game seem to hire a disproportionate amount of female staff, compared to the ratio of male to female gamers, but then realising that the majority of Game store managers are likely to be male loners with poor social skills and hygiene, i'm guessing that this is their best way of meeting women.

The IT department I used to run had more than 50% women, come to think of it...

worse part is that it's the female staff that are the most sexist. i boycotted them when i took a 360 game to the counter with the girl and the woman gave me this really odd look and went, in the most patronizing voice of all time:
"are you sure about this?"
"sorry what?"
"are you sure you don't need the wii version? this is for the 360"
"go fuck yourself"

I wouldn't trust anything the Shropshire Star have to say, to be quite honest.

I've never seen a female member of staff in the local Game(station). Thinking about it, I've only ever seen one in all the various branches I've visited.

Weird, i've seen enough to notice that there are quite a few in various branches!

Yeah, one in each Cardiff branch here.

I've never had much problem with the folks at the Cardiff branches. They seem alright. I could cheerfully let loose a wild, angry tiger in CEX Cardiff though.

Hmm. The only plausible reason for this I can think of: any female staff of Game run into the stock room when they see me walking near the shop. :'(

Cex here seem to have a healthy mix of male and female. There's been at least one female crew member in Gamestation. I've had a female helper before.

Haven't seen any in Game though.

In playtime (an indie) there was an outrageously gorgeous (at by my definition, probably seem a bit plain to most) female staff member.

When I worked at GAME we always had loads of semi attractive women who knew nothing about games, apply for Christmas temp roles.

We hired the majority of them.

What happened when someone asked them, say, if Generic FPS is better than Alternative Generic FPS?

Boobs, probably.

Malia has got it. They guessed. At the time we had a 10 day returns policy so people could easily bring the games back.

I once heard a female shop assistant tell a customer that an N64 cartridge could hold more data than a DVD. It didn't matter though as she was very attractive.

Don't understand how they are losing money

The rob everyone blind for trade ins. When I bought my WII they were giving away a new game with it. I didn't want the game and preferred to trade it against a controller, they gave me around 50% of the game price and it never left the shelf!

Every week you see people trading in games for peanuts

There was one very, very attractive young lady at Leeds Cex back in 2000. I think she probably left due to being an attractive young lady in a sea of ugly. She's even got a very fake name on Facebook, possibly to prevent said dorks stalking her.

Must try harder, eh?
