I am looking at this, and I have the following statements:

Quote:
Personal liability
Cover under this section does not apply to
weddings taking place within the USA or Canada.
You are covered up to the amount specified in the
benefits schedule in respect of your legal liability arising
from accidental injury to third parties or accidental loss of
or accidental damage to third party property. In the event
of your death we will, in respect of the liability incurred by
you, indemnify your personal representatives in the terms
of and subject to the limitations of this section, provided
that such personal representatives shall act as though
they were you and observe, fulfil and be subject to the
terms, exclusions and conditions of this section insofar as
they can apply.
IMPORTANT
This section does not provide an indemnity in respect of
liabilities arising from the actions of anyone other than
you, except insofar as you would be held liable for them
at law, and does not include any additional liability
accepted under a hiring or booking contract.

and
Quote:
Optional public liability extension
This section applies only where the appropriate
premium has been paid, as shown on your
certificate
Cover under this section does not apply to weddings
taking place outside the United Kingdom.
Section 11 personal liability is extended to cover all
persons invited to the wedding or reception by you in
respect of legal liability arising from accidental injury to
third parties or accidental loss of or damage to third party
property.
IMPORTANT
This section does not cover liability incurred by you more
than 24 hours before or more than 24 hours after the
wedding date.
Special exclusions applicable to sections 11 & 12

Why do I need the second option? Who is it protecting?

I would have thought the venue would have their own public liability insurance, frankly.

That is what I am thinking? Is this to cover me if one of the guests burns the venue down? Is it to cover the guest if they do such a thing?

It'll cover you if you set off fireworks and one of them lands in someone's garden and sets fire to their gazebo, that sort of thing. If you're having it at a typical wedding venue, they'll have everything covered, I would have thought. Check with the venue.

We had our wedding reception in a marquee in Lady T's parent's garden, and I'm not sure if we had any wedding insurance at all... Not that anything happened, but in hindsight maybe it would have been better to be covered, just in case.

Not that I was really involved in that much of the organising (and none of the bills :attitude:) , other than giving approval or vetoing things from time to time, so it if something did go awry it wouldn't have been my responsibility (right?).

You can also get insurance to recover costs in case the wedding doesn't go ahead.

Cheery, no?

I didn't have wedding insurance. I saw it as another way for people to make money out of the folk getting married.

Also... we didn't have a per nup agreement.. does anyone else?

Up until very recently, they legally meant fuck all in the UK. Not sure about their status right now.

My understanding is that the courts will look to them if they think one side is taking the piss. I'll look deeper tomorrow for you if you want, but they have moved toward some position on it of late.

Well, this is kind of what that does as well. If the caterer doesn't turn up, or someone dies and we cancel, then we can claim money back.

I'll try and find the insurance we got and send it through to you. Mainly for comparison purposes as we didn't have anything to claim, obv. Have to say I paid no attention to it at all - it all just disappeared in the flying duststorm of vanishing money that was my wife to be.
