I would really like to see a new Pickford game on Xbox Live at some stage, although I don't know how practical or profitable/viable that might be. Minter appeared to be having a torrid time with his last game, but then again he is abit niche. The iThing might be an easier and quicker device to develop for, but god there's some shit to wade through when you start looking at the listings of what's available. I'd hate to be in there fighting to be seen among 500 fart apps.

I've never heard any sales figures for Live games so have no idea if they are viable or not

Lllamasoft's bad experience seemed to be largely down to them being a two-man team, trying to deal with a massively bureaucratic overhead to get into XBLA.
This was a serious headache for them.

IIRC once it was released the sales figures weren't great which didn't help matters, which you could put down to being "a bit niche" but it was the barrier to entry that's the problem.

Many people tried to cajole him into doing iPhone games instead but they'd already invested a lot of time in the PC / 360 development.

Don't know if minds have been changed on that since the iPad came out, Government yard would have been able to tell us probably.

The trouble with Llamasoft is as good as their stuff can be, they just make stuff that they want to play. And basically it's variations of the same games they have been churning out since the days of the 64.

I'm not playing Mutant Camels 25 years later either...........

I've never enjoyed a Llamasoft game.

Well, anyway, I'm going to get this game and give it a go, so we can continue this discussion in a new thread and stop diverting this one :)

I went to Crete once, where the minotaur lived. I didn't see him though.

I have to say I really do like Minotaur Rescue. Once you're used to the controls, it's much fun. It hasn't quite replaced DoDonPachi Resurrection as my high-score troubler of choice just yet on the iPhone, but it's coming close. I've sunk quite a lot of time into this already.

I was in a play about Theseus and the Minotaur. I can't remember much about it, or even who I played. I think it might have been some kind of virgin goddess soothsayer mystic oracle type person. I just remember wearing not a lot of very sheer white fabric.

I have no idea what this thread is about.

I also know a song about Daedalus.

Going by my friends' reactions the problem with Space Giraffe on XBLA is that everyone's terrified they'll have an epileptic fit.

Also, a friend of some guy I once met in a dodgy boozer told me that it's not as much fun on drugs as you'd think ;)

I'm waiting for the controls to click on Minotaur Rescue but fucking hell they are tricky. I don't even know where to begin in terms of getting used to them.

I liked Space Giraffe a lot. I wasn't great at it but I could play it until the levels just got savagely difficult and (despite what Minter says) completely unfair in terms of not knowing why you died.

Then he patched it and it seemed to become a lot harder and a lot less fun. The bullet collision detection was absolute shit also.

After half a dozen goes I was controlling the ship satisfactorily and getting through to the harder levels. It's genuinely quite fun, which I wasn't expecting when first starting and thinking it was Asteroids!

Zio, Blucey, are you on the openfeint thing? Usernames pls?

I was, but I wasn't really paying attention to it and cancelled it to save on loading times.

I'm on Game Center as Blucey though. I figure eventually all games will be on that.

Hang on, this thread is about Minotaur Rescue? Yeah I got that ages ago. It's good. I mentioned in the iPhone thread the day it came out. Keep up, Kalmar. Stu has already reviewed it - he thinks it's ok.

Romanista linked the review above, keep up :p

Yeah admittedly I didn't search for it but I hadn't heard of it, and no harm in having a Minotaur thread I think :)

I liked it and I don't usually get on with Llamasoft games.

It suffers from an actually very good but hard to get to grips with control method. Perhaps when a few other games adopt these controls it'll seem very normal and intuitive (Mario 64 felt very alien at first).

It took me quite a lot of time to feel comfortable moving the ship about.

Reviews for it seem to be generally positive or very positive.

However, as I lack an iDevice of any type I'm waiting for the PC version (due out in the near future).

I may pick this up as my first game purchase of 2011, just because.

Do!

I'm struggling to get near any of Zio's scores so far but I'm still improving, despite hitting the "brick wall" difficulty that the rev mentions.
Basically once you're past that you need to be "in the zone" and swooping about with massive power-ups, then the score starts to ramp up rapidly.
It's a bit of an adrenalin rush when you can do that actually, which is pretty good for a 59p game that runs on your phone.

I play a quite frightening amount of Minotaur Rescue at the moment, it's the absolute definition of a 'just one more go' game. Although as said before, DoDonPachi Resurrection is still the one for high score hi-jinks for me, rubbish though I am at it.

Games like Mino Rescue, DoDonPachi and Infinity Blade are what convinces me that iOS has legs as a gaming platform, as I've sunk far more time into these games lately than I have anything on PC or console.

Agreed. Only had a quick go thus far, but i was just flicking my finger around the screen, hoping for the best. Aiming to one day know what to do.
