The problem with a second hand phone these days is that the battery life is almost certainly going to be fucked. Depending what actual functionality she needs in a work phone you might be better off just getting a new but cheap Android handset so at least is lasts?
A cheap second-hand phone in decent condition plus a new battery could still be significantly cheaper than a new midrange phone. More faff though, certainly.
I was assuming that anything from even the last few years wouldn't have a user-replaceable battery, though I didn't look to see how true that was admittedly. Certainly Samsung and the like haven't given that option for a good long while; my S8 doesn't have it and that was released in April 2017.
Side-note: previously I'd have been scandalised by the idea of owning a phone for even a year, never mind buying something near the end of it's cycle and keeping it for over two years. I wonder if I've personally stopped giving as much of a shit or if phone tech now improves in such small jumps that it's just not as compelling as before? Or, why not both, I suppose.
