Hi folks.

My rechargeable battery recharger is borked. :(

I need to buy a new one, so wondered if folks had any recommendations. I mostly/exclusively use it to charge AA batteries

My old one was a Jessops model, but Jessops has now closed in Lancaster. Can anyone suggest another sturdy charger for AA batteries? is there much difference in them?

I've not really found much difference between the various chargers I've used over time , if your computer is on a lot then you could look at something simple like the energizer one which runs off USB

http://www.energizer.com/usbcharger/lan ... nload.aspx

I have one of these and use it fairly regularly - however if you have a larger number of batteries to charge then there are also basic plug in models you should be able to pick up from a supermarket cheaply (the big disadvantages of the energizer is that it only does 2 batteries at a time and its quite slow)

Or of course if your an apple fan and care about what the thing looks like (I dont - I just want it to charge batteries)

The "overnight" type that you can buy in highstreet shops are all much the same - very simple, slow, not particularly good for battery life, but shouldn't break.

If you can find one that says "smart" and has a setting for nimh batteries, that would be preferable - Energizer make several models that are available on amazon so I would probably go for one of those.

I think Homebase have an offer of 4x batteries and a charger for not much moneya t the moment, but I could be wrong.

I bought one off 7dayshop which came with 4 batteries although it does make a wailing sound when charging and the batteries get incredibly hot.

Not much of a recommendation I know... but it works!

Ooh, cute, but that also only does two batteries at a time by the look of it, and my camera takes 4 :(

I don't think we have a Homebase anywhere near here, so I think I'll either look on Amazon or see if they have an equivalent to Kalmar's suggestion (the Smart ones) in Argos, as there's one of those down the road.

Argos should definitely have something. I'd search their catalogue for you if I wasn't still in bed.

Uniross is an 'ok' brand if they dont have anything fancier.

That have Energiser and Duracell ones. I'm just looking at the Energiser ones at the moment as there are quite a few. Can't see any of them labelled as 'smart' chargers, though one is a 1hr charger with an automatic cut-off, so I'm just going through all of the different 4-battery ones at the mo.

I remember my mother's Uniross charger melting, once, so I've always shied away from those a little.

Look out for kit from these guys:

http://www.gprecyko.com/en/index.html

Their rechargeable AA's are very good and when you buy them they come fully charged.

Other than that chargers are pretty much chargers. You have standard chargers, and fast chargers. You can get some chargers from the likes of Enegerizer that can be reduced in size when not in use (the battery holder pushes up inside the main unit).

However do not buy from Fleabay as you might end up with some nasty Chinese thing that will burn down your house, steal all your possessions and post on here saying that you fancy Craster.

I didn't see that one.

Edit: ooh, and it's in stock!

I have reserved it.

Ace. Thanks, chuck x

I just bought 8 of those cells last week Chinny, haven't tested the capacity yet but seem to be lasting well.

Hehe, not the Craster!

I have never heard of those batteries, but I shall make a note. As it is, I have quite a few rechargeable batteries, but I know they don't last forever, so the recommendation is a welcome one.

My whole house is currently running off batteries because there's a powercut :(
I've dared to put the xbox on but it may be at the expense of the electric blanket later..

And yes (mr chris) I have a battery charger plugged in as well.
