No idea if this would work, but could you do a search for *.ext and then copy them out of the search window? Or would that just take the shortcuts?

xcopy frompath\*.ext topath /e /s

I was thinking that, but I'm half convinced either the e or the s is redundant.

Also Mr Russell, I'd tried your method but there were issues on viewing all the files as there's many thousand of them.

Probably the /e (combined with the /s all directories including empty ones, I think) but /s /e is so ingrained in me that it is force of habit and won't harm.

Copy them first and make sure you are happy.

Then go to the folder and do delete *.ext /s but make sure you are in the right folder. Double, triple check.

I don't have enough space to copy them all. I've got a backup of the folder elsewhere so it's not a big problem if things go missing.

I'll see how I get on with mr Russell's method.
